Atheists don't try to disprove religious beliefs . They present facts that happen to disprove religious beliefs . The religious people present the Bible "as fact" when it is NOT . For example , Atheists do not set out to disprove the existance of god or the Easter bunny . It is just when someone tells us that one of them IS coming , we reply with a fact such as "There is no proof that an Easter bunny or god exists ."
EDIT : Practica.. , That is circular argument . Which means it is inherently FALSE ! You are saying :IF you believe the Bible , God will give you the power to understand the Bible and thus have reason to believe the Bible . So you would have to believe it before you understand it . Why would you believe something you don't understand . Only because you accept the word of someone who holds themself up as an authority . Most likely your mommy and daddy . It is time to use your own intelligence ! The Bible is mythology !
EDIT For : capnarlo , Those reports were "fudged" by people trying to make a case for creationism . Here is the truth about this urban myth :
Two of us, Dr. Hastings and Dr. Schafersman, visited the sites many more times and interviewed creationist excavators, including Baugh.
*Later, after we had completed much of our study, creationist Russell Arndt heard a presentation of our findings and said, in effect, "OK, maybe none of the tracks you saw were mantracks after all, but they will be found there; you haven't seen Dr. Baugh's most recent discoveries, have you?"
This is a common argument. Every pseudoscientific claim we know of falls back on this kind of argument (and the related question, "Were you there when it was discovered?"). Only logic and common sense can answer such objections, because believers can always stay at least one "manstep" ahead of skeptics.*
Hovinind is an expert at distorting the truth . He is a coward who refuses to debate any person with expertise . Apparently you , capnarlo , are attempting to follow in his footsteps . It is USUAL for a camera man to put the reporter in front of the event wheter it be a fire , an accident , or report on supposed footprints . The commentator for NOVA said he HAD seen the areas and did not see footprints . You attempt to distort this , like Hovind does . It wouldn't be half as bad if the religions kept their flock in the sheeples pen . But the Christian sheeples keep wanting to make sure everyone else believes the way they do . This is because these people ARE insecure about their beliefs ( among other things ) and find comfort in numbers . But they are even frightened by the notion that there might be others out there with different beliefs . So they will gladly spit out and believe lies and distorted facts in order to huddle together in the safety of the church .

Because they are "willingly ignorant" or as Kent Hovind says, "dumb on purpose" Here is the most glaring example of this willing ignorance... Limestone at Glenrose Texas reveals both the footprints of humans and dinosaurs in the same strata. The prints are right next to and even superimposed on each other showing that both were present at the same day and consequently coexisted at the same time contrary to evolutionary myth. The TV show NOVA showed up and the reporter stood with his back to the evidence and refused to look or have the evidence filmed . He boldly stated for the camera that he did not see any footprints. He didnt see them because he refused to look at them, not because they were not there. Therfore NOVA would not have to admit that their religion of evolution is a big fraud. Willingly Ignorant, yes dumb on purporse ...
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Peter 3:3-7

Read & understand what? The Bible (which version - King James, International version, New Standard version), the Koran, the Torah, the Apocrypha, the Tao , the Book of Mormon, the Gnostic Gospels, the I Ching, the Aryas, the Buddhist Suttas, The Satapatha Brahmana, the Tanakh....I could go on & on. There are a lot more sacred texts than just the Christian bible.
Edit - just because they choose not to believe it or follow it doesn't mean they don't understand it.

Perhaps because they don't believe the writer There's a lot of people that don't believe the Bible because they don't believe it was written by God inspired people. These people have blinders on their eyes and I feel so very sorry for them. I wish there was a way I could get to each of them and prove the Bible is correct. IF, people would believe and follow the word of God we would have such a wonderful world.

Yes ..... even though the atheists and the christians read the bible of FSM stating the FSM is the creator of their god, they don't believe it ...... now read pre-genesis 1
1.1
"Before the beginning, there was the non-existent giant tomato sauce and the FSM."
1.2
"When the giant tomato sauce accidentally tripped and spill some sauce onto the great FSM eyes, the FSM spoke the word "Sh*t", and hence in the beginning that was the word.
1.3
"With this word, this sh*t was born, calling himself god"
Now you read it, you understand it, and you shall pray to FSM instead of some sh*t.
-----
You mean your god chooses who to give this knowledge to? Does that not mean you don't have free will to choose, based on unequal comparision? Or are you trying to tell me you should hypnotize yourself to believe this creature is real without proof and then you would believe whatever this book says is true, no matter how ridiculous it is?
-----
Crazy bee ..... if the people followed the word of your god, you would be going around killing infidels and be a dog to the Jews ....

I'm going to report this question, as it makes no grammatical sense, unless you fix it before I get back from lunch.
Edit: Thank you for clarifying. So basically, no one can understand the Bible unless they are a believer, and no one can believe unless they understand the Bible? How does that circular logic make sense?
Fact is, I am an agnostic, and probably understand the Bible better than you. I can support this claim by also noting that the Bible doesn't say any of this crap you just mentioned - did you just make it up on the spot?

Hey bakfanlin,
Just because Christians believe in heaven, doesn't mean they won't simply cease to exist the moment they physically die.
Catch my drift?
Don't make such obnoxious statements. It's (edit: no, that was harsh. It's specifically statements like this) (note this, questioner) that make atheists want to disprove your beliefs. Read some books on the philosophy of "knowledge", and you will quickly learn why.
For the same reason, the "hard" atheists are probably just as bad in their beliefs, but at least they resort to disprovable fact, which theists NEVER do, because its not possible.

I don't have to disprove it. I'm not the one claiming, "There's an all-powerful invisible being that lives in the heavens and it made everything and it expects the Jews to obey about seven hundred rules while the rest of us have to obey just ten, and this book -- written by semi-literate nomads -- is how I know all this is true."

If God wants me to be a believer, why doesn't he help me "understand" it right now? Or make it possible to read the original manuscripts without learning Greek first? Or just give me an original revelation? Or send an angel to chat with me?

Yes I have read all about how in order to 'understand' the Bible I must first believe in your god. That strikes me as somewhat unfair to say the least.
I am sure you are blissfully unaware of the irony of that particular religious rule.
