The Bible I saw for Men had all of the features written by caucasion men. The same in the womens Bible. I was looking for a Bible where the features and articles are written from an African Americans perspective. It seems they would write information more relative to me. I once saw a Bible for children where the illustrations where of people of color not the blonde hair and blue eyes you usually see.

I haven't heard of one specifically aimed toward African Americans, but that's a good question. I do know of a college out on the east coast that has offered a course in "Africa in the Bible". I got the 3 part DVD from dodresources.org that produces the weekly TV show Day of Discovery . They have lots of good resources . You might try them.

(Please excuse all of the rude responses. Some people haven't got a clue. Afterall they make study bibles aimed toward women, teens, etc.! Why not African Americans?)

I think the International Bible Society (www.ibsdirect.com) had one, specifically designed for African-American people. And, Christian Book Distributors (www.christianbook.com) used to have a couple different translations. The American Bible Society had some portions with such an emphasis, too (www.americanbible.org).

But as many have already stated, most of the Standard translations (King James, New American Standard, New International, etc) do not place any additional emphasis on any race, color, etc., that I'm aware of. The publishers only wanted to make the Word of God available to as many people as possible. I do wish you good success in your search.

*Also* There is a missionary agency, www.sim.org, which has an online bookstore. They have an Africa Bible Commentary, with both English and French versions. This book is specifically designed for African Christians, pastors, and so forth. Why not check it out?

That's preposterous. Why do you need a black illustration of the bible? We have here... Black Jesus, Black Santa, there's a black rendition of basically everything that doesn't NEED a new racial rendition.

The problem, my friend, is not that there's probably not a bible illustrated specifically for blacks. The problem is that any illustration that would portray the characters as looking like anything but middle eastern in origin is false and problematic.

Let's face it. Jesus Christ was a Jew. Of the Jewish bloodline. Carrying the genetic qualities of that blood line. Looking like what a Jew would look like. He was not white. He was not black. His skin tone was most likely what would have been called "olive", and I'd venture to say that that is probably accurate for most of the people accounted for in the bible.

Must you have yet another racial rendition of something that does not need to have one's race assimilated to it?

Dear Friend,

The reason there is no Bible for African Americans (men or women) is the same reason there are no Bibles for Chinese, etc. The Holy Bible is for "all" of us. God designed mankind with all of the beautiful colors...black, brown, yellow, white, etc. And loves His creation. Although, He does want a personal relationship with us.

And just for your information, Jesus was a Hebrew with olive colored skin, dark hair and dark eyes. He was not white, yellow, etc.

So, if that is the reason you are looking for a "specific" Bible, I think you should think it through.

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

lostnsavd...

Dr Cain Hope Felder brought one out called the Original African Heritage Study Bible. It's great, has lots of study tools, background info, maps, etc. It only comes in King James Version, but I just use mine for the extras. there are others, one has Jubilee in the title, but I can't remember all of it. The first one I mentioned is on amazon, but you might find it on ebay or half.com, too. You'll love it!

The Bible is for EVERYONE. Not one particular group. "For God so loved the WORLD..." not some bunch of people.
And you can't be African AND American. You're either one or the other. All this HYPHENATED American cow plop is just that. Either you're an American or you're not. Make up your mind.

Why would you need a bible specifically for African Americans. We are all people.

King James Version should work just fine.
If not, try the New American Standard.
