I have heard alot of Christians declare themselves to be saved and how they are chosen and to be raptured, etc.

Surely God decides that?

My city seems to have a church building contest. A big one goes up with all the fancy glass and chandeliers and a week or 2 goes by and another one across town is trying to out do the others.
Whats up with that?

I am atheist in my beliefs, yet I think of myself as being a spiritual person - in my care of others, the planet, etc. Your comments on your own feelings will be appreciated.

Yesterday, someone asked something to the effect of "Yesterday I bought Oreos with red cream with a picture of Frosty. Why winter and not Christmas ?"

Today, I wanted to look at the answers to see the thumbs up & down, and the question is not viewable.

Why would such a question be deleted ?

REVELATION 9:11 They have as king over them, the angel of the Abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.
Do you view this angel of the abyss, known in the Renaissance as Obadon, as a good being or an evil being?
Do you think it is a coincidence or a sign of some type that the numbers 9-11 have come to mean so much in the early part of the 21st century?

I am a teenager and a few years back, I made a decision that when I grow up, I would go to serve God and Christianity. Yesterday, some worries just buzzed into my mind and now I suddenly feel like I won't be able to enjoy a normal life if I do so. I felt as if I would be a failure and suddenly didn't want to pursue my dream instead I felt like I would become a doctor, lawyer or something. So many worries started coming and I found myself answering so many questions and worrying about the future., when I am still so young. I just threw my wish of three years into the dustbin and felt like I should lead a normal life. I felt so unconfident and faithless, whether in God or myself. Help me, please, I don't understand what happened.

I read about the recent story in the news... the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, and its leaders are ordered to pay $10.9 million because of funeral protest in Baltimore, Maryland of Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder for saying, "God is punishing the United States because of its tolerance of homosexuals" among other things!
To tell the truth, my stomach is turned to think that there are human beings that could do or contemplate such things! [I thought "Love Your Neighbor" was important! Doesn't that include making every effort out of love to help others?] Maybe the truth is... God is punishing the United States because of its tolerance of people such as these! Such people say they are doing it in the name of God!!! That truly disgusts me (I also feel it degrades their portrayal of God to many people), it amazes me there are people that can be so insensitive - and we are supposed to be civilized?!?!

Do you know what the expenses are, including salary for clergy and other workers, benfits, etc? Do you know what percentage goes for charitable works or other programs benefiting either a) church members or b) other people? Do you know what percentage comes from donations from the members and what percentage comes from other sources, like the government?

The overwhelming evidence. You can't really expect anyone to believe that there is only one skeleton supporting your theory and that skeleton is Lucy. Where is her mate? Or did "she" rely on asexual reproduction? Why have scientists found more evidence of this event that you claim has been occurring for millions of years? Do you understand why people are skeptical of it when you can't even find evidence and you've been looking for over a century?

A lot of protestants (and others) say that catholics worship statues. I've personally had people say I put more trust and faith in my rosary then I do in God.

Just because we face something during prayer does not mean we are praying to it. None of you claim jews pray to the wailling (sp?) wall. It helps me to completly focus during prayer when I have an item that I use to religiously. It helps remind you, helps you think in a religious sence.

If you pray kneeling down against your bed you are not praying to the bed are you? I do not understand how this is different for us- we are not praying to status. At most, we are asking people to pray for us- and yes, we believe they can hear us.

How is a statue wrong then?

I've been reading up on this online (something I normally don't like to do with this sort of thing), but I've come across a couple of websites that place Loki as, no less, Head of the Vanir. Now when I read the Eddas, it seems he is Aesir. I'm just wondering if maybe I'm missing something here?
