I love it. They tell it like it is. Classrooms are for facts, not faith. It isn't the place of public institutions to teach personal beliefs.

They preach one thing, then do exactly the opposite.

The Catholics use statues to focus their prayers while Orthodox Christians use icons. Is this against God/Christ and the Bible at all?

Was this refering only to the Corinthian church at the time since the verse says 'your women' or is it meant for all women down through the ages? Here is the verse in question:
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not
permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under
obedience as also saith the law.

And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at
home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

I just answered a question basically asking why "non-believers" were so angry at Christians. I compiled this list:

Blue laws
Ten commandments in my courthouse
Opposition to gay marriage
Uneducated people denying evolution
Trying to teach God to my kids in science class
Banning Harry Potter
Abstinence only sex education
"Faith-based initiatives"
Gay teen suicide after their parents sent them to "reparative therapy"
The Persecution Complex
My president taking counsel from Pat Robertson
Invading another country because our President believed God told him to
The fact that no one hoping to hold public office can claim any religion other than Christianity
"In God We Trust" on my nation's money
Changing our pledge of allegiance to invoke the Christian God
Singing "God Bless America" at every baseball game
A widow having to take the US government to court just to display the Wiccan pentacle on her husband's gravestone
Jesus Camp

What more can you add to this list?

Or do most of them think it's just symbolic? If it really turns into flesh, would it turn back into bread if you got sick and vomitted it up?

Jesus used to finish His parables saying "he who has ears, let him hear".

I think that means "he who has enlightenment, let him understand".

My questions:

- how can we get enlightenment (which is a learning process itself) to understand Jesus teachings?

- If those people were not ready to understand Him, what makes us think we are ready?

My opinion is only through several lives and Jesus knew it, that's why He was so secure about it, implying that if we don't have "ears" now, we will have "ears" later.

Your thoughts...

Imagine for a moment that people who believe in astrology are the majority in the US. Assume also that a fundamentalist group of astrologists exists, similar to the Christian Right, who want to make laws to enforce their beliefs.

What would those laws be?

or just ignorant of history?
Why the claim the pilgrams founded the USA? Why the claim the founding fathers put the ten commandments on the Supreme court building? (It was not built untill 1935). Or the claim of "in god we trust" on money whaen it was not added untill 1954, the same with "under god" in the pledge 1954 when it was added.
They make false claims and ignore facts like the treaty with Tripoli article 11 1796-1797.

Do they hate history or just chose to ignore it?

I love wolves and have felt drawn to them for over twenty years, and I am asking because of a site ( i won't mention his name, but some feel he is a "bunny writer") has a section on totem animals, under familiars, and I was just wondering. Need serious answers. I do not think my cat, would be appreciative of being my familiar!

Why do fundamentalists throw a fit about an adult book store in their town but have no problem with the soft core porn in the book of Ruth?

Adult book stores are age restricted so children are not exposed to anything that would be there.

The bible is taught to children from a very young age.

Since discovering this forum, I've seen way more "Bible-bashers" (Q's & A's representing intolerance, condemnation, and open hostility toward Christians), than I've seen the stereo-typical "Bible-thumpers" they are railing against. On the whole, Q & A's posed by Christians seem thoughtful, polite, and respectful of others' beliefs.
I also don't see anyone railing against other world faiths much. (such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and others.)
So what are atheists and other Bible-bashers so angry about? Could it be that they are having doubts about their own doubts, and looking for others here/elsewhere to help convince them that they are right and justify their anger and fear?
Let's say they're right & I'm wrong. I still get to rest in peace when I die, with probably have less regrets at my end for how I lived, or according to some, I might even get a "do-over." But if Christians are right? Even if I had no other reason to believe-why take a chance with eternity?

"I'm being oppressed" or "my beliefs are endangered by (fill in group of your choice)" etc seems to be a refrain i keep hearing out of various people these days.

Which is kind of funny because when I query the people who come from a diametrically opposed viewpoints - they kind of have the same thing on their mind.

Strangely, there's a kind of......."faith"(not the best word to use here) that the otherside (whatever the otherside may be) will be swept away, and that the Earth will be a better place (or at least a quieter place) without the other people around.

So its a model of "Crisis" --- "Struggle" ---- "Assured Future Success(They will See the Light/Reason/Great Proletarian Revolution/Whatever)"

Its a kind of narrative - Is it rather more like a mental trick/structuring that gives meaning to peoples lives? (IE: The struggle gives me meaning.)

C people who walkdown it escape the narrative? Do they even want to?

Science should dismiss it as a delusional state of mind, and not even consider it to be a logical working explanation of anything in our universe. I dont know about you guys, but I'm tired of hearing "Because god wanted it to be that way" for everything that happens in our world. how can a god be OK with the Genocides that we have carried out on his name? the killings of innocent people becuase him. People, if something does not exist it will not show, which is why you will never see a god. Idiots can go and fight over who has the better imaginary friend all they want, but please lets not believe that a god would create us, then set traps for us, and once fall into it punish us with his fire and smoke and pain and agony for eternity, but our parents tell us "God Loves you" Why do you people think?

also he say

Sûrat Al-Mâ’idah
(The Table spread with Food)
72. Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allâh is the Messiah [‘Îsâ (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah [‘Îsâ (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners (in worship) with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode[1]. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers.

The interpretation difference between some Protestant groups and Catholics is that Catholics do not consider Revelations to be prophesy - for Catholics Revelations is but a poem of lament after the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD.. Early Christians expected Christ to return sooner rather than later and to save Jerusalem from destruction from the Romans.

Thus, Revelation the poem was written. Each of the gospels has some poetic license built in though - each gospel was written for a specific community at the time: each gospel is a Christianity marketing piece with historical information included.

Ummmmm ... what part of evolution is dictated by the government? I wasn't aware that the "state" had any jurisdiction over naturally occuring genetic mutations.

I could be wrong though ...
