Why do fundamentalists throw a fit about an adult book store in their town but have no problem with the soft core porn in the book of Ruth?
Adult book stores are age restricted so children are not exposed to anything that would be there.
The bible is taught to children from a very young age.

If they were truly concerned with sheltering children from stories about sexual exploits, shouldn't they keep the bible out of the hands of children?

It is a crime to show porn to children and yet christians force their children to study this stuff.

well actually there is a lot, A LOT of sexual content in the bible.
i know christians conveniently ignore judges 19 when teaching their kids the bible. (and conveniently ignore any other verses that have material not suitable for children)
and then deny it has anything bad in it.
mmhmm...
(for those that dont know this is the story of the levite and his concubine. how the the levite took in a traveler, the men of the town demanded the traveler, instead of the traveler, the levite gave them his concubine to rape, and they raped her to death, he found her in the morning and cut her body into twelve peices and sent them to different tribes throughout israel)

Actually the Bible as many stories in it that would be consider romance to violence. Ruth is not soft porn however. It is actually very innocent. No sex takes place tell marriage.
Someone can be a pervert and read the Bible that way, in some instances, but most fail to see God's interaction with men and women who are very human. Also speaks of God judgment on those who use sex for their own lust and harm to others. Each case had it own consequence.
Follow the ancestors of Lot in the Bible you be amazed. What about Ruth ancestor's. Who was Obed's great...... grandchild.

I don't know what you're talking about. What porn in the Bible? I see no such thing. Pornography is a destructive monster that is wreaking havoc on people's minds and marriages across this world. The Bible brings life and hope. There is no porn in the Bible.
Song of Solomon is the beautiful perfect love between a husband and a wife. That is not perverted, it's what is meant to be.
Yes there are lots of sexual incidents in the Bible, but if you could read the story beyond those single paragraphs, you would see that those incidents are shown to be very wrong. The consequences of those actions are very negative. The homosexual scene, town was destroyed with fire. Hmmm, maybe it was meant as a lesson, d'ya think??
The Bible is useful for teaching, it is meant to be our source for answers on how to live life. Shouldn't it address every area in which we might have questions? How could we learn God's will otherwise? Do you teach YOUR kids about sex without talking about it? Without giving examples of how it can be dangerous? Don't think so, God doesn't either.

Adult book stores bring down the value of the real estate surrounding them. Adult book stores tend to attract other less than attractive businesses. Children see the giant obvious signs that try to attract drivers to their stores.
EDIT. Since you have found soft porn in the Bible, why in the world do you need an adult bookstore???????

It's called hypocrisy.
The Book of Ruth isn't the only one...I highly recomend the book "The X-Rated Bible"; it goes into all of the sexual references in the Bible. And there's a LOT of them!!!
But apparently it's because porn is for pleasure, and the Bible is excused from being called porn/erotica because it's the Bible. What other text can you show to children that is so full of sex and violence?

What soft core porn in Ruth?
Read the book sometime. It is about a widow who through faith and hard work is about to marry into a rich family. There is no sex involved between any of the people in the book.
At one point, Ruth goes out into the field during the night, and lays near the feet of her intended so that he will awake and discover her there. Under Jewish law, a woman announced her desire to marry a man by placing herself at his feet. That is all Ruth did - she intended that she would like him to ask her to marry him.
That is why when Boaz talks to another relative, who by marrying Ruth stood to inherit any property she owned, the may intended that he did not want to marry Ruth by removing his shoe and giving it to Boaz. It showed that Ruth was not "under his feet".
Nothing porno (soft core or otherwise) in any of that.

I know the book of Ruth extremely well, and nothing in it is pornographic. it is true that after Ruth and Boaz were married they had intercourse and produced a family. That is stated in a matter-of-fact way. But soft-core porn? that is ridiculous.

I have read the book of Ruth I don't see anything remotely close to "porn". That is an allegation you shouldn't make against God's word. Maybe I should put the WHOLE BOOK of Ruth in my answer.

Ruth 4
Boaz Redeems Ruth
1 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, “Come aside, friend,[a] sit down here.” So he came aside and sat down. 2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down. 3 Then he said to the close relative, “Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, sold the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech. 4 And I thought to inform you, saying, ‘Buy it back in the presence of the inhabitants and the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you[b] will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am next after you.’”
And he said, “I will redeem it.”
5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to perpetuate[c] the name of the dead through his inheritance.”
6 And the close relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel.
8 Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” So he took off his sandal. 9 And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. 10 Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate.[d] You are witnesses this day.”
11 And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem. 12 May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the LORD will give you from this young woman.”
