How many of you Christians have had religious experiences as a child? In other words, when were you saved? Specifically at what age? If you care to share your story. If you are an atheist please refrain from answering. If you are of another religion other than Christianity, please refrain from answering. Thank you for sharing you stories.

I'm feeling all alone out here! Are there any other practicing Alchemists or Hermeticists out there? Anyone familiar with the Summum? My best friend, who was my boyfriend at the time introduced me, and enlightened me, but we are no longer together, and we live hours apart, so it is difficult to keep in touch on these matters regularly. (I don't e-mail too frequently because he has a new girlfriend and I don't want to interfere).
You can either answer, or e-mail. I'd love to have some open discussion with people!

Does the mere fact that God (allegedly) created Hell not scream of hypocracy? For he must have known (based on his infinite wisdom and power) that some of his creation would reject him and thus be thrown into the "pits of fire". And what about the Christian concept of predestination-where he allegedly has already chosen who goes to heaven and who goes to hell? This is contradictory to the idea that God wants everyone to go to heaven.

Do you struggle with lust, sex, and judgement? I struggle with it daily and wondered if I was the only one, because that is what it feels like. I pray daily for the strength to control it and that helps.

It seems to me there are two options here for dealing with those blasted atheists:

1) Provide them with some evidence, so that they can have a fair chance at believing if they choose to do so

2) Send them all to Hell for not believing without evidence

Now, which do you think a loving God would do?

why must EVERYONE be out their converting everybody?
catholics trying to convert muslims
muslims converting non believers
athiests converting everyone

in my view, religion is a personal experience, so why cant we leave it that way?

my view is religion causes more problems than it helps. we waste our time praying to a nonexistant person hoping they will help the sick instead of getting out their and helping them ourselves plus it creates discrimination and tension between friends, neighbours, family

but back on topic :-P why are humans so insecure?

By proof I mean actual, tangible evidence, supported by sense baring traits--can you see, taste, touch, feel, or smell undeniable, that God does not exist? Scientific, reproducible evidence/data, well validated, is acceptable. Short of that, I will accept a valid, well written "logical" proof that God does not exist. Bare in mind, I want only serious responses. If you are angry or are overly emotional in your responses, please don't respond. Thank you for your time.

A lot of people who believe that the Big Bang never occurred seem to believe that matter and energy had to come from somewhere, but that God can be eternal. I don't exactly understand how this works.

Can someone explain this to me?

Doesn't the belief that matter and energy were created violate the first law of thermodynamics (conservation of matter/energy)? If not, why not?

I realize this question is better suited elsewhere, but I just like R&S better so I'm putting it here. :)

Have any of you taken the GRE? How'd it go? Can you give any advice to a girl preparing to take it?

I'm not at all worried about the analytic/verbal parts, but the last time I took a math class was in high school, seven years ago. Any suggestions of reading material, or maybe even a website with exercises I can do to brush up? Thanks.

I saw this interesting response to a question asking atheists why they do not believe in god (obviously not from an atheist). Is this necessarily true? Is the opposite of believing in God to deny God? Is the opposite of believing in the Flying Spaghetti Monster to deny the FSM? Is the opposite of believing in Allah to deny Allah? Do you have to go so far as to deny something that does not exist, or is failing to believe enough?

Thoughts?

I looked up the word and it said "sin is a condition of the heart, and Jesus traced sin to inner motives." Sin is also defined as a violation of the righteous nature of God. So I looked up righteousness and it said it was "to be in the conformity with God's character, and accomplish God's righteous purposes with sinners." So what is sin? Is it a list of the things written in Romans that we should not do? If so, where does inner motives come in to play? Is is all about practicing a certain behavior or is it the consequences of that behavior that is a sin?

I have led a life that is mostly without sin, by most people's definition of the word "sin". I have tried to reduce the suffering of my fellow man. My conscience is clear.

Yet I cannot believe. I am an atheist. I doubt there is much that is real in the Bible---I know the history of its origins, and I think it likely that it is a dubious transcription of ancient fictional stories. I doubt that the Jesus story is anything like historical truth. I doubt there is anywhere like Hell, but, of course, one cannot be certain about such propositions. The fact that many people and cultures have believed is some evidence for its existence, and it seems like a place that should be avoided at all costs. Yet I cannot participate in Pascal's wager---I simply don't believe, and cannot make myself believe.
