Actually I think the next thing that you have to do is start saying, "Since everyone now agrees that such and such is a true fact...."
That one seems to carry a lot of weight with some people, after all who wants to disagree with everyone else? You may have to defend what you say if you disagree, but if you just agree with everyone else, you don't really have to know anything, because no one is going to challenge you on it.
