Id love to know how a bad thing (such as rape or losing a loved one). is really suposed to lead to god?

If someone came to me and said that god planned to have that thing happen to draw me in.
I would tell em to bugger off.

Think of it this way
My partner tells my friend that i hate them, this is to make me spend more time with her. does that sound fair to you.

That me wanting to work and eat was greedy.

She said that all religion is based on Greed and power.

She said that Greed and power where the primary forces behind people.

She said that she would also die if it meant that another child (Even a stranger would live).

Any responses?

I normally read a 300 or so page book in a week, but this one took me a month. Why? Because the factual accounts of Christianity and other religions are so morbid, violent and sickening that at times I could only read a few pages at a time before I had to put the book down.
I truly, honestly do not understand how a religious person can read this book and STILL be religious. Its sick and disgusting what religion has done and continues to do to our world and society.
Anyone else read this book? Any thoughts?

What is it, and who decides whether you earned karma or lost it today?

This question has risen to my mind MULTIPLE times. I'm Mormon, proud of it and Never ashamed. Basic beliefs of Mormonism
Jesus is the son of Heavenly Father.
There is no one superior to God
The book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus' life in the Americas
Jesus died to save us
You can recieve the Gift of the Holy Spirit by the laying of the hands

Don't Christians in general have those beliefs too?
IS it because we believe in a different book OTHER than the Bible?
How is it so that Mormons aren't Christians?
(Polygamy ended a hundred years ago so PLEASE get off that train)

Should others accept you no matter how you treat them? Or would it make more sense to treat others with some respect even if we disagree on some things?

man on a mission asked the question in a rather awkward way, imo.

The question should be

If you can believe in the bible then how can you bash mormons or call them crazy for believing in the Joseph Smith story?

Step back from your religion for a sec to see it from a diff perspective. Atheists would look at biblical stories and find it crazy for anyone to believe in such nonsense. Many of you christians look at mormons stories and find it crazy for anyone to believe in such nonsense. What is the difference?

If your religion and beliefs are faith based then how is your beliefs in things others find crazy any more legit than mormons beliefs in things you find crazy?

Please try to stay on topic. I dont really want any mormon bashing questions. If you dont want to address the actual question then just move on.

My fiance died not too long ago, and all I have been hearing for the past 3 months is "it was God's plan for him" or "God was calling him". I've heard it more than enough times, and I disagree. I think that everyone has free will and that our lives are deaths are not planned by God. By saying that God has a plan for everyone, that means he plans for adults and children to be murdered, raped, abused, tortured, starved, etc. etc. That doesn't sound like something an all loving God would do. If you believe that God has a plan for everyone, do you still believe he is all loving? How can you, when he lets such awful things happen to innocent people?

It is unlike a simple gown, because it seems to fit snugly about the chest and abdomen. It has a long line of buttons down the front, which starts at the top of the neck, goes down over the chest and abdomen, and ends I know not where.

Does anybody ever read anything that goes against their religious beliefs (i.e. Tract from other religion, other holy book, essay on atheism...)? Knowledge from many points of view makes any argument that much more credible.

Could it be because Christianity and the bible actually supported, encouraged and condoned such behavior?

I've been an atheist for many, many years.
I've been married for 27 years, and we've raised 4 happy and successful children who are just about to make us grandparents for the first time.
I can honestly say that god has had nothing to do with my life, or the life of my family, and we've been so very lucky because of it. I'll retire in 8 years (still in my fifties) and fish, read, write, and travel a little with my wife.
Thank you.

You say you cannot believe in a man who went into the woods and saw God and Jesus, then translated the book of mormon...

Yet you can believe in a global flood, that a whale swallowed a man and spit him up in a city, that there was a burning bush that was not burning, that Jesus' mother was a virgin, that Jesus died and ressurected himself and then floated on a cloud to Heaven....

I don't see the logic of how you can say those things are true, but then say Mormonism is completely crazy....we believe there was an ancient text that was a record of the life of people over here a long time ago...you can't believe that, but you can believe all those other things???
