Im also LDS and we are Christians it says so in our name...The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! A Christian is ANYONE who believes in Christ...
They do have the same beliefs just about but The Book of Mormon throw it off....people can't understand it like we do..its something they have to open their hearts about and step aside from everything they believe to understand were we are coming from!
By the way I love that quote from Gordon B Hinckley

The FIRST tenant of Mormon faith proclaims:
We believe in God, the eternal Father, and in his Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
That would be a strange belief for a non-Christian church.

It is frustrating when anti-Mormons say things like "You are not a Christian. You are a cult." They don't really consider that I would know more about my religion than they do. (Yesterday one person asked if Romney will end polygamy if he is elected.)
I will continue to defend my beliefs since I know they are true. How can people think they are an authority on a subject when they don't have all the facts?
I feel sorry for these people that post lies - several people answered your question are liars!

Christianity - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit all part of the same entity called God. He is from everlasting to everlasting, the Alpha and the Omega. He does not need, nor has He ever had, a "mate". Salvation is given as a gift to all who believe on Jesus Christ, who died on the cross and rose again after taking on all the sins of mankind. This is because we cannot be perfect enough to please God the Father by our own efforts. The Holy Spirit will come into anyone who sincerely asks, there is no need of "laying on of hands" to achieve this. Paul in the New Testament warned not to engage in baptising of the dead "as the pagans do". THERE IS NO GOD BUT GOD.
Mormonism - God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit three separate individuals with a common job description. God was once mortal, but worked His way up to godhood. God has a "mate", the Spirit Mother (a goddess), with whom He makes spirit children to be born into human bodies. Perfect obedience to the church doctrine will make you perfect enough not only for God but to become gods yourselves. To get to heaven, the dead must be baptized as Mormons. THERE ARE MANY GODS.
You do the math.

Sounds like Christianity to me.
Christians follow the teachings of Jesus. Enough said.
P.S.: I am not a Mormon, just an informed individual.

Mormonism is a polytheistic religion. That fact alone places it miles away from Christianity. The mere fact that they include the name of Jesus Christ in their wacky theology doesn't make them Christian. Christianity means believing the truth about Jesus Christ, not just believing "something" about Him. No, Jesus is not a created being. No, there are not many gods in charge of many planets. No, God the Father was not once an ordinary man who worked his way up to godhood. No, Jesus Christ is not one of many lesser gods. No, human beings cannot someday become gods. No, Jesus is not the brother of Lucifer. These are a few of the many Mormon beliefs that are completely incompatible with Christianity.

In case you hadn't noticed, all the Abrahamic faiths are built on the basic concept of EXCLUSION.
God, Jesus, Mohammad, John Smith, whoever--all work hard at parsing humans into who's acceptable, who's not, who's in, who's out, who's condemned to death, who gets to live, who goes to heaven, who goes to hell, etc.
So why do you care whether Christians include/exclude Mormons?
Think about it.
