man on a mission asked the question in a rather awkward way, imo.
The question should be
If you can believe in the bible then how can you bash mormons or call them crazy for believing in the Joseph Smith story?
Step back from your religion for a sec to see it from a diff perspective. Atheists would look at biblical stories and find it crazy for anyone to believe in such nonsense. Many of you christians look at mormons stories and find it crazy for anyone to believe in such nonsense. What is the difference?
If your religion and beliefs are faith based then how is your beliefs in things others find crazy any more legit than mormons beliefs in things you find crazy?
Please try to stay on topic. I dont really want any mormon bashing questions. If you dont want to address the actual question then just move on.

I guess there will always be people that want to go off on rants instead of answering the question. Oh well. If you are going to go off on why mormons are wrong can you at least try to apply it to the question somehow.

I am not backing away at all from my beliefs. I am just able to stand back and see how my beliefs sound to other people. I know they can sound crazy. I can admit that. That is where my faith and testimony comes in. I do think that my religion makes a little more logical sense then other fundamental christian faiths though, but I can admit to how my religion looks to others. I just wish other people would see the hyppocrisy of calling mormons crazy for their beliefs when what they believe isnt exactly any less crazy sounding.

The answers have gotten better and I actually do appreciate that. Edge, although I have some issues with some of your questions and answers in the past, this one was well articulated and you applied your answer to the question so I appreciate that too. I still, though, dont think you have any more authority to interpret what a christian is according to the Bible then I do.

What bothers me is that fundies spend so much time telling atheists that they're going to hell, but then they also tell everyone that they don't consider to be a "true Christian" (just about everyone else) that they're going to hell also.
Mormons, JW's, Catholics and and anyone else who teaches different religious doctrine are going to hell according to fundie bible thumpers. So even believing in God and Jesus isn't enough, it also matter which Christian denomination you choose out of dozens of possibilities. It's ridiculous, if there really was a God do you really think he would be that exclusive?
I think that all religious doctrine is false, so someone's particular sect doesn't make a lot of difference to me. If you told someone who had never heard of Christian doctrine that Christians believe that we are all born with original sin because the first man and his rib wife were kicked out of a magical garden because they took the advice of a talking snake and ate a piece of fruit, they would just think that people are silly for thinking that. So in my opinion Christians really shouldn't be going around calling other people's beliefs crazy.

Here it is: the real logic is that people can't see the forest for the trees. If you ask them to look at their own beliefs in a critical fashion, they will end up being unbelievers rather than also believing additional fantastic stories from someone else's tradtion.
For example, I was raised Catholic. It was a LOT to swallow virgin birth, transubstantiation, holy trinity, etc. But when I heard the Hindu god stories about one baby being conceived in one virgin mother and then taken out and born from another one to escape a prophecy, it didn't help me to understand or believe that faith although the person telling me this was a credible, intelligent medical doctor. Instead, it made me look at my own and decide that it was ludicrous, just like the Hindu tale.
So you see, people don't want to have more incredible stuff piled on top of whatever beliefs they're already saddled with. It gets topheavy, and the entire mess just falls down as a result.

In the Bible it says that an angel appeared with another book in his/her hand, reference to The Book of Mormon. Many times in the Bible it talks about another book.
I can't remember exactly where but I promise its in there...we add nothing to the Bible. We believe every word it says.
What us mormons believe is just like every other religion. You have faith that what your taught in church is true...and do you not pray about it for an answer to know what is true? the Joseph Smith story starts the same...certain things are hard to believe but you have to have an open heart and undoubting faith to know something is true.

Yo Ray J! Y'heard the man, no bashing! Thumbs down for you buddy.
You see, Christians are tunnel visioned / minded. They do not have open minds. You cannot expect them to step back from their religion and see the world or universe from a different perspective.
All they have is a 'One way traffic' mind. All other concepts of God or and other theology related to chritianity other than their own is baseless. Does not make any valid standing in their opinions. They are quite opinionated if you ask me.
They always only stress one point. God / Jesus, accept them or burn in Hell. They are quite judgemental too. The bible says, 'Judge not, lest ye be judged' but they go around judging people.
They will not believe in any other concept of God or theology, that does not do Justice to their beliefs.

Let's answer this question with a question. If God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one and the same, how is it that the Holy Spirit rested on Christ in the form of a dove, and then a voice from the heavens proclaim, "this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased."
If God is a spirit still, then explain Jesus’ resurrected body rising to heaven or Thomas feeling the wound in his hands and side.
If no other things are to be taken away or added to the Bible, would that mean also the anything after Deuteronomy should be discounted since it says it similarly as what is written in the Book of Revelations. Should that also mean that anything in the New Testament should also be discounted?
I believe that we are all children of God. As a father of our spirits, would you think that Heavenly Father would allow his children to enjoy his prosperity and would you think a good father would not want to spoil his children knowing if they got something for free, they wouldn't appreciate it as much as if they worked for it.
Remember, grace will get us into heaven, but what part of heaven do you want to be in, a world like ours, a world more beautiful, but not in the same league as where Heavenly Father reigns, or living with our Father in Heaven, knowing the joys of living with our eternal spouse and continuing to live righteously as husband and wife. Would you think that God would want that from and for us?
I hope this does not discount your question in the least. Remember, I can come up with as many scriptures accounting for my questions than you can for discounting them. These are questions that you need to answer for yourself and to study and ponder and also pray about them. I hope you all do.

So we should all start believing ANY story we're told? No, obviously not, that would be ridiculous. Mormonism and Christianity are markedly different- which is why Mormons don't attend Christian Churches, and why christians (in my experience) aren't welcome in Mormon Tabernacles. I'm sorry, but the premise of your argument is flawed. Like most things in life, there are far more ways to be wrong than there are to be right. That's not to definitively say your beliefs are wrong, we won't know that till the end, but to claim that everyone's beliefs are right is just silly. Too many beliefs contradict in too many ways for all of them to exist in reality. Statistically speaking, it's far more likely that everyone on the planet is flatly wrong, and the actual truth of the Universe is something no human has ever thought of. Our opinions carry equal value, but unfortunately that value is very little.

It seems to me that Mormonism believes in a different God than the one revealed in the Bible. The God of Mormonism was once a mortal man. He was exalted to godhood by obedience to a system of doing good works. He is married to a goddess or at least a godlike wife, and he is restricted to a body of flesh and bones.
Also, Mormons believe in a different Jesus than the one in the Bible. The Jesus of LDS doctrine was born as the first of God's billions of spirit children. He is Lucifer's brother. At some point in the premortal life he became a person of the godhead. He was conceived of Mary by the direct physical action of the Heavenly Father.
These beliefs are very different from what most Christians believe. It seems to me that if things are different then they aren't the same.

Let me tell you how I see it. Christianity is based upon the Bible. It has been that way basically since the beginning (even before all the scripture was compiled into the Bible it was available to the churches). The Bible tells us the basics of Christianity.
Mormonism is based upon the book of mormon. Not the Bible. Yes I know you say you follow the Bible but if you just followed it you could not support most of your beliefs. You have added another gospel to the Bible. Which was specifically warned against. Most of you main doctrinal teachings cannot be supported by the Bible.
You are right in saying that following both Christianity and mormonism rely upon faith. I understand that I accept Christianity by faith and you accept mormonism by faith. And you are right in saying there are many things in the Bible that without faith are unbelievable. The same is true with mormonism. What I object to with mormonism is the fact that you call yourselves Christians. Based upon your beliefs I do not think you are. You are mormons. A new religion. Yes the official name of your church has Jesus in it. Does that make you Christians? If I started a church "The Jesus Christ church of people who think we are saved by wearing pink". Does that make us Christians? No. No more than calling mormons The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints makes them Christian.
I do not say this to bash you but the simple fact is your beliefs are not Biblical. Thus I believe according to the Bible you are not Christians.
starmandy2786 - what the Bible actually says about an angel and the gospel is the following.
Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Similarly people believe that Christ rose from the dead and walked on water, yet demand proof for the Book of Mormon.

first you say why can we believe in the Bible but not mormons. well that is just it. the Bible preaches against anyone else coming to us with another doctrine. if you believe the Bible then you would be against mormons. the only ones would be mormons. as well as if you believe the Bible you are against other beliefs as well.
i for one can care less what people believe. i would hope they believed how i do but i know most wont. just as well as i can care less what others say about what i believe. i believe how i want. and i know it is true and right. so no matter what others say it does not bother me at all. just like i cant say who is going to hell or heaven. i cant judge and i am not a judge.
and i get your point. that is why i dont bash what anyone believes. i will invite everyone to my church but wont push the issue either.
