You say you cannot believe in a man who went into the woods and saw God and Jesus, then translated the book of mormon...

Yet you can believe in a global flood, that a whale swallowed a man and spit him up in a city, that there was a burning bush that was not burning, that Jesus' mother was a virgin, that Jesus died and ressurected himself and then floated on a cloud to Heaven....

I don't see the logic of how you can say those things are true, but then say Mormonism is completely crazy....we believe there was an ancient text that was a record of the life of people over here a long time ago...you can't believe that, but you can believe all those other things???

I just don't understand why Mormons think it took Jesus so long to get it right.

What are you talking about?

Thanks cadisney....you're obviously the only person smart enough to figure out what I was saying. I guess the others were just too ignorant to read the full question and not just the headline.

ultimately, it's because the prophets and events of the old testament have become mythological figures to most christians, they don't see these as real men with struggles and trials and mistakes. They expect a prophet to be someone rather mystical. Certainly not a young man in the backwoods of New York who struggled against prejudism, ridicule and simply the trials of growing up -- it's easier to revile and demean and find fault than accept that their prideful rants are false. People who demean and defile others religions are rude and closed minded - refusing to see the good in all people and ultimately denying their own claims of being christ-like. I know you are caught up in your own conversion, and find it hard to believe that not all want to follow the path you've found. Reread Nephi's struggles with his brothers and how his elder brothers rebelled and reviled and sought to murder Nephi. Laman & Lemuel saw an angel and still could deny the prophets, the scriptures and ultimately, their God. Seek not to challenge, but love and mourn them and their choices.
Best wishes.

because most of the men who claimed to see the tablets took it back sometime in their lives before they died.

there is scientific evidence for global flood,

There have been men found in whales that they found out later that they were a live for some time before dying inside the whale

Not impossible. Women sometimes do this. There is science behind it but all known cases miscarried

Witnesses who saw Jesus resurrected and spread Christianity at the point of their very lives being taken from them. How can you say that they didn't see when they died for it. I'm not talking about faith but what they saw with their very own eyes.

why would you depend on a man named joe that went to the woods to tell you what God wanted ? doesn't God want you to do that for yourself ? Jesus said that we would be sent a helper , which is the Holy Spirit (not joe) by the way , can you show me where at in the True Word of God that it says " here comes oh joe , and he is coming to re-write the Word of God because it wasn't good enough the first time" . ? that right , thats not in the Bible , but It does say something about adding to or taking away from. Isn't that where oh joe comes in? and if your a Christian then follow God 's Word , and not old joe's

Adam, and others, you arent getting the point.

The point isnt that if you believe one then you should be able to believe the other.
The point is that if you can believe in the things in the Bible then how can you call mormons crazy for believing in Joseph Smith and the idea of the Book of Mormon.

The Bible sounds just as insane to non believers as the mormon religion sounds crazy to you. So where do you get the authority to call mormons crazy when you believe in things that sound just as crazy to others.

It is all a question of faith. Why is your faith any more legit then mormons?

You don't believe the Bible. Plain and simple. If you do not believe the Bible I will call your religion false. You believe God was just a man who got elevated to godhood. That is enough right there for me to say you do not believe the Bible and thus are not Christians. Then you think Jesus and Satan are brothers. Another nail in your coffin. Finally you believe God is some alien and lives on another planet with His wives and spirit children. It is not just Old Joe's so called prophecies that tell me mormonism is not Christian. It is your beliefs.

Ok. I just love the typo you made when replying to hinds feet. The book of moron. Lol.

Cadisney - You are right it takes a lot of faith to be either. However because of your beliefs and the fact that they are not Biblical we can say you are not Christians.

You know, there is a place in the New Testament where someone used the name of Jesus Christ to try to cast out a demon. At which point the demon said "I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?", and ripped this person to shreds.

You see, just using the name of Jesus Christ doesn't make you a Christian.

I really like Mormons, Great faith and great works. I just don't understand why Mormons think it took Jesus so long to get it right. Or what you think Jesus meant when he said the gates of Hell would not prevail over his church that he built. I respect your thoughts on this I just do not understand.

As someone who is LDS, let me give you some advice.

Don't tell people they are crazy. Even if you tell them they are

Don't be comabative; just bear your testimony at the appropriate time

Don't get mad because people disagree with you

All you've created is another place where people can bash mormons. That really doesn't solve anything.

Joseph Smith made a prophecy that a 3rd temple would be built by a certain time, I forget the details, but it was an unfulfilled prophecy, the 1st of many. Brigham Young, and all the "prophets" since then. It only takes one unfulfilled prophecy to be a false prophet.
You also preach a false gospel.

Your argument is based on a logical fallacy. The question of the truth of the Bible is unrelated to the question of the truth of the Book of Mormon. In trying to connect them, you're reflecting your own beliefs, but you're ignoring the fact that to most people there is a clear difference, and believe that Mormonism has some pretty glaring defects. Dishonest arguments aren't going to get you far...
