The same argument for faith is used by theists in respect of the bible, but the principle is the same, n'est ce pas?

2007-10-04 10:06:10 · 18 answers · asked by Anonymous

This is specifically aimed at Theists who believe in heaven and hell.

Mr.200Monkeys asked about people in heaven missing loved ones who had gone to hell. ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071004125627AAqNBeM ) The general Christian response was that there will be "no more sadness" and that people in heaven forget about their absent loved ones and do not remember their lives with them.

Of course, people in heaven are also said to be perfected, and no longer plagued with sins.

My question, which I have had for a very long time now, is how this idea of a self which has lost its prior memories and also no longer has those "quirks" of personality which are more or less a conglomeration of small bad habits and imperfections .... in what ways is this "new self" still "the same person" as the original believer?

Obviously, bodily continuity can't be the underlying sameness, as it might be with alzheimers or other such memory/personality loss. . . .

If no one can find in the OFFICIAL DEFINITION of the word "CULT" that says that it is: "A group that does NOT believe that Jesus is God", then please do not bother to answer with your own personal OPINIONS.

Meaning of Life? -- The answer to this question cannot come from human intelligence or reason, but only from the Creator himself who transcends our material world.

As we see in today’s naturalistic society, once we remove God from the equation, we start to lose all sense of purpose for mankind. But, if God exists, we really do have a transcendent purpose, and really do have meaning for our lives. Not only do we find day-to-day significance in our lives, but an ultimate significance through our hope in eternal life. If God exists, we remove the moral relativism that pervades today’s society, and we replace it with a standard of absolute right and wrong residing in the character of God Himself.
Do you agree?

Hi. Im 15 and quite interested in ethics - however I'm not the sharpest critical thinker, and often dont think of points for/against very well. I would like any resource - preferably a website or maybe a book (without too much jargon) that just explores through controversial topics ranging from politics to religion to simple every day matters

Thanks

Even though the christian accepts the athiest and loves him/her. Where does that cruelness come from? This person was even thanking God for this atheist for being with her as a friend. I do not see how an atheist can act so heartless and say that he loves her. These people are in a relationship.

You totally missed him. He couldn't really get people to understand his message then they locked him up in a mental asylum for a while on account of his huntingtons and he died.

Oh well...no rapture for you.

He was named the King

He spread his love amongst the masses

His following is great

In 2000 years from now, with some lost evidence and a bit of messing with historical facts, will they talk about Elvis Christ?

for people to believe that God exists? I mean he died for your sins and the Bible says so why do you doubt that he exists and at times condemn those who believe in him?

enough to contribute something to earth?

What would you say to a society of Atheists that were serial killers
had no mind to want to do right, or atheists that were hoplelessly homeless, broke, no family no friends have a disability unable to live life with the human condition, that would make him happy or want to contribute to his exsistence?

I ask this because as one poster said your school of thought would be might as well live it up in this life- Get a bottle of Jack sit on the beach and find some honey to hook up with.. Is what you are saying Atheists think some mighr have meaning to thier life and some don't that's just the way it is>
The MASSES OF PEOPLE WOULD NEVER LIVE YOUR WAY
Where is the purpose of life? it's like you are saying it's all an accident?

I'm don't believe in religion but I wanted to pose this question for those who are always attacking the religious...

Now i know about all the violence religion cause, but what about the religious who simply use it was a crutch? why attack them? Religious texts are books of myths and stories that inspire people, people do that with the X-men, star trek, star wars, battlestar galactica, LOTR, D&D and a bunch of other MORONIC stories... so if someone doesn't hurt anyone else by believing obvious fiction (beating women, war, discrimination, mixing church and state) why not just let them the groove on their beliefs?

I'd appreciate serious answers, not wise-as.s remarks

In Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:
Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus says:
For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

I truly believe in Jesus Christ and consider myself a devout Christian, but there are times that I question my faith or belief in God.

Jesus prayed in the garden before His death, questioning His faith, too - "Father, why have you forsaken me?"

Mother Theresa had her doubts and wondered where was God while seeing the suffering of children in Calcutta.

I would think the Jews during the Holocaust prayed for help from God and they must've had their doubts, and the Jews are the "Chosen People."

Have you ever had these doubts and questions, and if so, how did you overcome them?

I pray to Christ and the Virgin Mary and others who I have loved and who've died, and I find peace and answers, but I have a hard time lately believing that God exists, and that God is Love.

I was raised my entire life believing in a non-vengeful God and that God loves us all.

Have you ever questioned the existence of God?

Being generous if you knew 20% of ALL the information that is in the world to know then that would mean that there is still 80% of things in this world that you do not know. (Now be honest no one knows everything) How can you be 100% sure that God does not exisist if there is a least 80% of knowledge that you do not know. See as an Athesit you are saying with out a doubt there is no God, So really it takes more faith to be an Athesit than a Christian or Muslim or any other believer in God And you say that Christians are naive. Your response please...
