Even if it were getting better, they'd say, "That must mean that Jesus is coming!"

Reality, as usual, isn't that simple. Some diseases are becoming less frequent because we've figured out ways to cure them or lessen their impact or ease of transmission.

Others are getting worse because people are living long enough to get cancer or whatever. The threat of all out nuclear war is diminishing, although the likelihood of some terrorist group getting and setting off one nuclear weapon seems greater.
Personal freedoms are better in the former Soviet bloc, although Putin's doing his best to stop that trend. Maybe Bush looked into his eyes and saw the same personal-freedom -hating autocrat W. really is.

The world still seems to be run on a two-forward, one-back basis.

I don't think the world is getting worse, each era has it's own troubles. For example a few hundreed years ago millions of people used to die of plague, whereas now this illness is practically unheard of. A bit over a hundreed years ago slavery was still legal in many western countries. A few dosen years ago millions died in the World War II, and Europe was in ruins. Each generation probably believes that they live in some way in aweful times, and everyone likes to talk of golden days of this and that, but the reality is there were never any golden days. So just enjoy the world you live in as it is, you never know, 50 years from now on people might be calling these times the good old days when everything was great.

No, no it's not getting worse.

Well, define worse. If the environment is what you're talking about, then yes.

If it's the leadership of countries, It's only getting worse than it has been recently. I'm sure you could go back and find much worse.

If it's the world in general, It isn't getting WORSE, people are getting more CONCERNED and are starting to notice things previously we didn't . So no, the world isn't getting worse, human perception is getting better.

I don't think it's getting worse and worse each day ... but we're hearing about a lot more stuff that's going on because we're a better connected community (with the constant influx of information through the internet... 24-hour news programs... etc., etc.) ... the curtains have been pulled back and we're just seeing all the stuff that goes on in the world underneath a spotlight.

Is it me or are the Christians obsessed with this end of world stuff? The world is not going to combust, blow up, get set on fire, etc. in 2012. That peculiar mantra is getting really old. If I were them, I'd cease the focusing on the apocalypse and enjoy whatever time I have left. But whatever, each to his own.

The world is not getting worse and worse. Ultimately it's getting better and better, but people just don;t know their history. To take the long view of human development, we appear to be doing better than ever. We have problems, but then, didn't we always?

Well, things ain't great, but there is some paranoia too...What I wish is that instead of complaining that "things are getting worse" and wishing for Jesus to make an appearance, I wish they'd actually do something to improve the world instead of waiting for the savior to get around to it.

The world isn't getting worse. For as long as humans have been on earth, there have been wars and selfishness and greed and children not listening to their parents, etc etc. Each generation seems to think that theirs is the worst there's ever been

It's getting much better, at least in the westernized, modernized societies.

It's much better than the days when the Catholic church ruled europe and they tortured heretics and had crusades to rid the world of infidels.

It's better than the days of WWII where 20Million people were killed due to one megalomaniac's distorted view of humanity.

And- as society gets more and more open. As information flows more freely- it's much more difficult for people to hide their wrongdoing.

for instance- there were just as many pedophiles in the days of Ozzie and Harriet, but today we have internet sites that let you know who they are and where they live.
