If you dont belive in God, what do you do when you come up against difficult situations? Am asking because I was raised to believe the things of christianity but never really was a "hard core" christian. Now that I question the validity of the bible(although I believe that some of the things are too supernatural to have ben made up..am clearly confused), I feel at a loss of what to do when I am in a difficult situation/personal problem because then here I am questioning the bible but I feel the need to pray...to something/someone am not sure I believe and clearly dont have complete faith in. Has anyone ever been in such a situation? Particulary if you were a christian...How did you get through whatver the situation? Did you turn back to God despite your doubts??

Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
If the thief came to faith in Jesus just before he died, then how did he have time to do any good works?
This question is directed to those who believe that we are saved by faith + works verses the grace of God through faith in Christ. Believing in your own works is taking credit for your own salvation and not giving all the glory to Christ who suffered and died to pay the penalty for your sins.
Again I am asking "How did the thief get to Paradise?" By the grace of God through faith in Christ or by faith + works?

Even though he created us and KNEW from the beginning how we would turn out. On the other hand, he set up this whole system of eternal torment in the first place, didn't he? Then he allowed thousands of other religions to spring up, punishing people who choose the wrong one.

Is that how it works? If you live a moral life but aren't 100% perfect, you deserve eternal torture because you didnt BELIEVE the right way.

You're actions count for nothing, but your beliefs count for everything? How fair is that? How can anyone deserve eternal punishment to begin with?

God made the rules here (supposedly), believe the right way or you get tortured forever. He created hell, he allows sould to go there, he decides the rules for getting saved.

There are lots of religions in the world, pick the wrong one and you pay for eternity. Sounds fair to me? Where does the love come in?

Oh, free will. Right. "Do as I say or get tortured forever" that sounds like free will.

Benjamin Franklin thought so. Could one of the founders of American Liberty be wrong about such a deep and profound matter?

A few weeks ago, I had a dream that I was at work (I work for Security at a healthcare facility) and was called to a unit. The medical staff mentioned that their patient wasn't staying in his room. He appeared to be heavily medicated. Once he was in bed, his upper body appeared to be "pulled" uppwards. He seemed to be having a vision, as he looked to the sky. Then he looked at me (not appearing to be medicated) and said "God is going to see you." I asked him why and he replied in an evil tone "so that we can be with you." After I woke up, I interpreted the dream that God is going to judge me and I'm going to hell (would be the reason that God is going to see me, and going to hell because of the evil voice.) Last night I had another dream that I was speaking to my mother and we were talking about a problem I had, apparently about my sister. I gave her my answer and she said "just go and see God." Any clue to what the dreams are all about.

Because some of you people ask the atheist some pretty specific questions assuming they know. That's like asking an asian to translate chinese for you. They probably don't know it, but you are assuming they do.
You look stupid either way.

Do you know when you're going to die? Like right before it happens, do you think your body and mind preps itself for what's going to happen? And where do you think your soul goes when you die?

This is not meant to belittle or sound condescending.

My family is Jewish but I an not religious and find the whole concept of religion as a money making business scheme.

I'm not saying I'm an atheist but the concept of a single god that created the heavens, etc... is a pretty far fetched. And even if it is true, that there is an afterlife of paradise and bliss, it would be a progressive metamorphasis that all life experiences, not a god "judging us at the Pearly Gates"

Anyway here's the question, actually two questions:

As I understand it, Christian ideology states that anyone who does not accept God and Jesus as their savior will burn in eternal damnation.

1) Does that mean all Jews go to hell? I've been told by some that yes, Jews don't accept Jesus as their savior and therefore go to hell. I've also been told that Jews are "God's chosen" and all Jews go to heaven regardless of their actions on Earth.

2) Is Gandhi in hell, he did not believe Jesus was a savior?

I haven't, but from what I'm told, it sucks the balls off a goat...

*They make you listen to Amy Grant songs sung by a Celine Dion sound-a-like all day long.

*On Sundays, I was told that in sermon is completely built around the lyrics to the MC Hammer song "Pray".

*On the fifth Wednesday on every month, George Michael is asked to visit and he does a gosple rendition of "Faith".

*I was also told that children are forced to work in the Nike mines...

I don't know about you, but I'd rather rot in hell than have to listen to Amy Grant or Celine Dion...The mining/children/Nike thing might be alright, however...

If God created us all then why did he make some of us evil, Christians say that God created us in his image how can this be? You cannot get away with just saying God intoduced sin why would he? Some people are Evil from being very young and grow up to be even more evil so how can it be said they have strayed from the "path" when they are not old enough?

please can you shed some light on this for me.

I mean, do you forgive only when the person shows you repentence or you forgive the person whatsoever? Do you forgive and forget? What is easier, forgive or forget?

Religion has always aliented people, and it is established that it has not withstood the test of ratonality. If you are compassionate and in harmony with laws of humanity, do you need religion? I feel human brain has developed enough and really does not need the deterrent of religion- a pre-historic tool to control man from wrongdoing. I want to build a community that shares this view strongly. Pl give contact details.

Islam, according to the 'holy script', the Quran, means 'readiness of a person to take orders from God and follow them', another meaning of islam is 'complete submission.'
Let's get the Quranic definition... Does God order these muslim people to go around and kill innocents? Does their God give them such evil orders?

It's the Devil who's supposed to give orders to kill and murder innocent people.

Does it mean that muslims actually worship the Devil? Does Islam means submission to the Devil and following his orders? is islam evil?

Thinl about all the people who have been killed... by followers of islam, in their evil quest to make the world theirs...

Religion offers communities of faithful believers a way. You offer a way to make up mind about self and world to those who seek a way. It requires faith that this is the best way to make up mind about self and world to follow the way your religion offers.
