This is classic. In order to hold onto a cult, you have to regulate what they discuss. You have to be the ONLY and undisputed source of information. That's a good way to identify a cult. If only one person or group suddenly came up with The Truth, it's a cult. This is true of the JWs, Mormonism, and Islam among others. By contrast, the Bible is the collected writings of a culture amassed over a few thousand years, and Christianity expanded on it but no one person wrote the New Testament either. When someone arises to claim the only true interpretation which, without accepting it, you are lost, then it's a cult. Islam did that; it accepts the Old Testament but adds the Koran. Mormonism did that, accepting both the Old and New Testament but adding the Book of Mormon and until recently, declaring that the King James version of the Bible was the only true version. That was to lend authenticity to the Book of Mormon in the eyes of the people, because it was written in a pseudo-King-James style to make a fairy tale sound religious. The phrase, "And it came to pass..." is only used once in the King James (second chapter of Luke, I think) but it's repeated over and over again like a mantra in the Book of Mormon. Well, doesn't that sound religious? You hear it every Christmas!

The brainwashing techniques of the JWs goes a bit deeper. Subjugate personal identity, limit outside contacts, regulate information. These are general characteristics of cults. The third one is what this article illustrates. You must be subservient to Watchtower, which is much more than a publishing house. It's a very authoritarian power structure. So it isn't that odd to discover that they're now facing the same criticism of shuffling child molestors around that the Roman Catholic church has been dealing with for the past several years.

As the Question Box is too small to read I can't tell what issue of the KM it is, therefore can't answer your question. I studied for 2 solid years with the JW's. I also still went to the church I went to, to prove them wrong. Can't see any brain washing involved unless you think the Bible is brainwashing someone. The Bible says that when the Word of Jehovah God is in you, you will know the Truth. So, I was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in June of 95. Never have regretted it one bit. Have a much better life and understand why the world is the way it is. I also know the meaning of life and why I was born. How many in any other religion know the meaning of life and why they were born?

The only brainwashing that Jehovah's Witnesses receive, is their minds are cleansed from the pagan doctrines of men that Christendom has truly brainwashed her billions of members into believing. How sad that Satan has blinded the minds of so many.

We now have the "mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16)
How happy and blessed we are that we obeyed God's command to "get out of her" (Christendom and all false religion)
We do not want to share in her sins or her plagues which the book of Revelation promises she will experience. Soon she will be shut down completely for Jehovah will put it into the minds of the political "wild beast" to destroy her. (Revelation 17:16-17)

Couldn't read it; it wasn't clear.
At 1st it started to come in;
but, then it went out of focus.
BUT, for the moment it did come in clear;
I did recognize the heading.

And The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses
are not a cult, as you mean it to be.
And I am thankful!!!! Jehovah has washed my mind clean:
of false religion,
of Satan's ways & tactics,
of man's traditions & lies,
of misleading humans, (like urself).
Again, THANK YOU JEHOVAH GOD!
Amen!!
or as the baby says it:
Amen! Amen!! Amen!!!

Every day, someone wants to take a swing at Jehovah's Witnesses. You are not after answers. All you are doing is trying to spread bigotry and hatred. I'm sure Unsilenced Lamb and the rest of your fellow hate mongers will be around shortly to answer your question.

If by "cult" you mean Jehovah's Witnesses (and we aren't one), then the answer is none.

If you have a problem with Jehovah Witnesses, you really need to bring it up with them. Besides they are adults, and if that is what they want to believe, them let them believe it.
