Ask them a question & they reply with meaningless scripture or another question. They seem closed minded & are blindly lead. They will believe a stranger before believing or trusting family. They do not believe in Science. They actually think that Bush is good for our country. Someone that lied to us, exploited the Christian trust for personal gain & someone that steals with help from his brother.
Why can't they say they could be wrong? ... once in a while?

I'm 17 years old.
Myself, as well as my mother are Roman Catholic.
All my life I feel as if I have been "FORCED" to go , never truly participating in the mass , I just would usually sit there.
This year I started to rebel and have not gone to church...
I HATE how my mother holds this over me when I want to do something...........

How can I get a desire to go . I feel as if im always ******* PRESSURED I CANT STAND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Why would God punish those of us that happen to have the incorrect belief?

I've looked at the evidence (as much as I know so far) and I've decided that the existence of God isn't likely. You may have looked at the evidence that you know and decided that God does exist.

Now lets say that God does exist. Would a loving and just God punish someone (eternally, no less) who, through no fault of their own (just trying to use all the faculties God gave me to come to the best conclusion that I can), just happened to get the wrong answer to the question of life?

And if we are supposed to believe because of faith, how am I supposed to know that I am supposed to use faith and not reason? The only way I could believe that is if I already believed in the Christian teachings, and thus believed when they told me that I am supposed to use faith over all else.

Is it an attritubute certain individuals, like Hitler, are born with,: or is it circumstantial, so that we are all capable of doing horrible things to other people.? Are some towns or locations influenced by an evil spirit? Can an organization or even a church be evil? If it is circumstantial, what conditions cause evil to flourish?

Is it true, that according to the Roman Catholic rite at least, when you die your marriage partner isn't "married" to you in heaven either? I seem to recall this from religion class and I'm just curious.

I am an atheist by the way .
seeing that atheists and other religions claim that jesus is not the son of god , do you hold a sympathy and understanding with atheists , or you tend to like believers more (even if they dont believe in jesus) ?

I'm athiest but wonder what the point of this heaven is. If everything is 'pure and good' then it must be a pretty boring place to be whilst stuck in it for eternity. Do you take with you the same prejudices, dislikes and annoynaces? If so it's a lot like being here and therefore it must all be a pretty messy place in the end. If not, hows that possible? If you have loved more than one person because of bereavement, who do you go to in heaven? Why should a non believer not be allowed in according to the 'bible'? This heaven concept raises bigger questions and issues than it answers I think. Seems to be a tool to manipulate the vulnerable?

A few friends and I got into this debate and I would like to see others thoughts as well.

In your mind was Pontius Pilot at fault for the death of Jesus (or as some put it a tool of the devil) , or was he merely just doing his job? Fullfilling a prophecy or what have you.

one could say that God had sent Jesus to die for our sins he would have had to make this happen in one way or another thus Judas or Pontius etc.

Apparently people had a problem with my use of the word "sin" in my last question... so perhaps they'll be a bit more comfortable with this one.

....I cant believe is some being in the form of man, sitting on a throne in a place called heaven and probably never can or will. I believe god is a pure, benevolent force that we must believe in before you can believe in yourself , and that we should never put all our faith in another person because we are all at fault (sinners), in at least one way or another/ I believe in Jesus and that he was working through god but am not 100 percent sure about all his miracles and find evangelists have a smug aura about them. does anyone know of a good website where i can get sound spiritual guidance that is not fanatical and over the top? thanks in advance!

... Church of Christ, Lutheran, Methodist, Mormon, Pentecostal, Presbyterian,or something else?

Does each state get to pick which denomination should serve as its official arbiter of morality and church doctrine as it effects state law?

What happens if a city becomes majority Jewish, Atheist, Muslim, or Hindu? Should people be forced to move from one town or state to another, like they've done in Bosnia and Serbia?

Or would it be better if religion and the government did not mix at all, and we all learn to live together without limiting one another's freedoms?
