by understanding that everything you own in this life belongs to God. that through God-given talents and abilities, you are able to acquire money to meet your needs. God understand that we need money to exist in this world, but He also expects that money not to replace Him. we are stewards of God's money, whether we are rich or poor. all money that is entrusted to us is meant to be used to glorify God and to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters...

if we indulge in materialism...

matthew 6:24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

no prescription that i am aware of, other than trying your best and fixing ones eyes upon the LORD Jesus Christ, in the hope of knowing that all the material things of the world are passing away, like a tumbleweed blowing away in the wind, but the child of God will live forever:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

1 John 2:15-17.

Refuse to divorce recognition of need for ethics, that some sense of right and wrong must prevail. Enjoy your materialism, as you do your romance and related pleasures. If you deny your humanity, you merely cheat yourself of present satisfaction. Plenty of Christians and like religionists are a living testament to the latter, for they presume asceticism might result in some future reward.

Overindulgence in the materialistic world hinders your spiritual growth.

It is difficult. Especially, living in a country where everything we "want", we could get, if we "want" it bad enough. I think God wants us to be happy, but I believe He has also put it in our hearts to know when enough is enough. If we go overboard, I believe He may take it away. The number one thing we should always do, is give God the credit for all that we have.

I think it is a balance of what material things that you really need...job, shelter, food, transportation, to those that you want, like a new billion dollar home.

I believe that as long as I am true to my spiritual beliefs, my material needs will be met. At least that's what Christ said. So far, he's been right.
Peace
