If you're not comfortable in the church your mother goes to but you wish you had a desire for church why don't you try different ones till you find one that you like?

Since you are 17 years old, that is certainly old enough to have an intelligent conversation with your mom. Why don't you sit down with her, explain how you feel about going to church and ask her what SHE gets out of attending church. Her answers may surprise you if you take the time to listen and learn. Be honest with YOUR feelings, too. And, since you said that you 'wished you had a desire to go to church' then perhaps it's just a matter of trying to see the church through your mother's eyes, paying better attention to the sermon, or digging deeper into the principles of the gospel. It might be your lack of knowledge that makes it frustrating to just sit there. Bone up on your knowledge of the scriptures, ask more questions, put your rebelling aside and you might be surprised at how going to church with your mom could end up becoming an enjoyable experience.

Can you go to another church? Maybe you just don't go for all the hype. Religion should be a part of your life, but your not getting anything much out of it if you have a bad attitude about it.
Try going to a small non denominational church or something. Maybe this will help you find some peace religion wise. On the other hand, if perhaps you join in a bit that may change your opinion. Good luck

Well, I wouldn't want to go either.
There seems to be a lot of condemnation in legalistic Churches. So? Why don't you go to an undenominational Church, like the one I go to? http://www.riveroflifefellowship.org . It is sooo important to obey God & get fed the Word of God in Church today. Especially since you see the Day of Christ nearing. The devil will lead you astray by wolves in sheeps clothing if you don't get grounded in a good bible preaching Church.

Then don't go. Assert your free will and your right to think and act for yourself. Maybe later in life you'll feel the desire to go. If you don't feel anything, maybe something is missing and it's time to look for it elsewhere.

Perhaps if you start learning more about your faith and church, it will make the liturgy and worship services have a deeper meaning for you.

Wikipedia alone has hundreds of pages devoted to matters of faith and church history.

I don't blame you, as a Christian, I wouldn't want to go to a Catholic church either. Try a Calvary Chapel youth group, you'll love it!
