Is it true, that according to the Roman Catholic rite at least, when you die your marriage partner isn't "married" to you in heaven either? I seem to recall this from religion class and I'm just curious.

Although as an atheist, such an event would be meaningless to me anyway, right?

This is true. In heaven, no one is married or otherwise; this is stated in the Bible, actually. That is why widows and widowers are allowed to remarry.

Yes you can see your "ex-spouse". You can see everyone else in heaven when you get there. I mean, when you get to heaven you're going to be there with all your ancestors and all your descendants (hopefully you and they will all make it there). You don't really need to be married anymore because you won't be raising a family. Everyone has already been born and died by that time.

That will make things easier for my mother. She firmly believed in heaven. But seeing that she was married 3 times, and widowed twice.. she always made the agreement with her successive husbands, that in heaven she would be with her 1st husband. Because they both had first wives and were widowed themselves, this was a great arrangement.

But it seems like they didn't even need to make it. As marriage is absolved upon death.. I had no idea.

Yes.

At the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven. (Matthew 22:30)

Catholic marriage is "until death do we part."

This also allows people whose spouse had died to remarry.

With love in Christ.

Jesus taught that no one will be married in heaven.

He taught that as recorded in the Bible.

Matt 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

To understand that better, I'd suggest you read the whole chapter.

Yes. Because those who go to heaven are those who are redeemed. And if your spouse is redeemed, she/he will go to heaven also. So, will other loved ones. But you aren't married anymore. But there is eternal rewards for love shared on earth with your spouse. Because love is everlasting. You will be with your loved ones in heaven, but most importantly, with Jesus Christ our Savior.
