I was watching the passion of Christ and I heard As Jesus said that we shall love those who hate us, because if we love just those who love us, where is the reward?

Jesus asked God to forgive those who crucified them. He asked that to God while he was crucified? From now on, love those who say that your God is a "flying spaghetti monster", those who say that you are idiot for believing in God." Those who say that your God is delusional." Love those people, because they have given their belief to a bunch of human whom they call "scientists."

The same scientist that said 10 years ago that cigarettes didn't cause cancer. The same scientist that say that global warming was fiction.

Love those people. Let's live like brother, even if those are not our brothers. As the bigger person, you should give the first step. Don't contradict atheists, just let them talk so much until they contradict themselves.

As Christian you may be forgetting your mission: get the message out, dont force it.

Do you think it's true that some people do indeed need a religion to live their lives in a morally acceptable way? And if you do, what do you think it is about those people that causes them to need it? I've wondered about this lately, and to be honest, I'm not sure what I think about it.

Thanks :)

We were going through the worse drought of recent memory, and we prayed all night for rain to come and save our ranch. It finally rained two years later! Praise God, he answered our Prayers! Too bad most of the cattle was dead or sold at the time, but the Lord moves in mysterious ways, amen?

It's a scientific fact that the moon moves 1/8th of an inch away from the earth every year. If you go back just 1 million years we would have tidal waves so big the would wipe out the land masses every day. if you go back just 2 million years the moon would be touching the earth. So what would happen 4.5 billion years that you claim? Where was the moon then? How could the earth survive this? Don't say the moon started moving much later. The moon is moving now and there is no evedence that it started later. Science is based on fact and the only facts we have on this is the movment that is happening right now.

I am not looking to antagonize anyone!!

I am curious what people of different faiths (atheism, agnosticm included) think about serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia, manic-depression, major depression. Could you include your faith so that I can get that idea?

One definition of evil is 'the complete absence or lack of the ability to change'.
In order to absorb the emerging truths in life one needs the capacity to change in order to accommodate them.
If one cannot accommodate truth then one cannot change and if one cannot change then one is therefore evil.
The opposite of truth is a lie and a lie is a myth or story which is presented as being the truth, and perpetuated and believed as such, despite the total lack of evidence to support it. By this logic religion is a story which is presented as being the truth without evidence so it is in fact a lie and therefore evil.

Or somewhere in between as maybe religious fiction?

I am a Christian and I love to write (historical fiction, by the way). I have one planned novel in the works and I have given serious thought to writing two war novels (both take place in World War II).

However, would it seem odd (or hypocritical for that matter) for a Christian to be writing about war? I have given serious thought about these two story ideas.

What's your take? Should a Christian write a war novel?

Some Christians say that the 7 days of creation (including the day God rested) were 7 literal days, where as other Christians think of them as metaphorical days. They take the verse "1 day is like a 1000 years in God's eyes" as their basis. So which is it? How do you support your view?

Before answering, keep in mind that Adam only lived for 900+ years (according to the bible). Now if each day was actually a 1000 years, by the end of the 7th day Adam's age would already have surpassed his actual age. The sun was created the day after plants were created. If each day was a 1000 years, the plants would not be able to survive (photosynthesis). Some Christians believe each day might even be longer than a 1000 years, which would make it even more absurd though. And don't forget to compare how the word "yom" is used throughout the bible.

There was a recent news item from Phoenix, AZ involving a man and his 19 year old daughter trying to exorcise the woman's three year old daughter. According CNN, there is an apparent uprising in the number of exorcisms occuring today. Do religions really support this and what is the biblical reference?

there are alot of things I've learned that can be argued. but here's something that you'd have to be an idiot to argue.

If X is so, then Y is so:

If the world is NOT a few thousand years old, then religion was made up by man to explain the unknown with logic and imagination.

regardless of whether or not you believe...there is no way the planet is only a few thousand years old. if that ONE piece of the structure is missing, then the entire structure collapses.

even so...I still want to live in the fantasy and delusion faith offers...because reality is too brutally honest.

Sometimes I feel like the only person of faith in these chat rooms. Are there any other prayer pilgrims out there? What do you pray about?

I am currently praying that Elizabeth Smart does the right thing and teaches others about the evilness of rape and that she uses her rape as a way to prevent the rape of others. I am also praying that her father doesn't do anymore commercials for security companies. Surely their Bishop will help teach Ed Smart that he should not profit from this terrible event. Further I am praying that Smart doesn't turn to a life of sin which is unfortunately the case with most rape victims.

I originally came to faith through Josh McDowell's "Evidence that Demands a Verdict." I had depression at the time (suicidal...) and needed to believe. The book states that there are more than 24,000 manuscripts and pieces of manuscripts of the New Testament in existance today. It then compares this to the Illiad (if memory serves...) with something like 640 manuscripts. That sounds good but breaking it down to reality... The New Testament isn't 1 book... its 23... and pieces of manuscripts? What constitutes a piece of a manuscript? A page? The entire Christian religion hinges on the reliability of scripture. Every apologetic argument uses the presumption that what happened in the New Testament really happened. I can no longer be 100% certain.

I will always be grateful to the Christian religion for helping me stabilize emotionally and mentally. I have to be honest with myself though.

And I am done staring into the abyss.

For anyone who has been on this site for any amount of time, know that I am a proud pagan, and have respect and tolerance , or at least try to for all spiritual beliefs and religions.

My brother, on the other hand, has chosen to follow the Mormon path. He mentioned today the term of excommunication and the process there of in the mormon church. He told me that this was a way of proving yourself worth....that you are worthy of being in the church and that you are worthy of "god"

Any thoughts?

As usual, no bashing please and only respectful answers. I am asking out of care and concern of my brother, not to mention out of true curiosity.

Blessings To All
