It's a scientific fact that the moon moves 1/8th of an inch away from the earth every year. If you go back just 1 million years we would have tidal waves so big the would wipe out the land masses every day. if you go back just 2 million years the moon would be touching the earth. So what would happen 4.5 billion years that you claim? Where was the moon then? How could the earth survive this? Don't say the moon started moving much later. The moon is moving now and there is no evedence that it started later. Science is based on fact and the only facts we have on this is the movment that is happening right now.

Footprints. Ken Hamms writings, you should read any of his books, he's a scientist, and you wouldn't believe how many facts contemporary science books hide from you. Not all scientist believe the THEORY of evolution.

Sergent, read a science book the moon is moving. Calling me a silly name? How old are you?

claim that it is not moving. say that its rate of movement is different. argue about the age of the earth. argue that your facts are wrong. and sight other so called facts.

name calling and changing the subject are also possibilities.

good points that science books are biased. heck all textbooks are. and so are all books. humans tend to be biased even when they try not to be it is part of being human. why do not people learn to think critically and independently and question things instead of just believing everyone that comes along/ everyone who has a phD and acts like they know what they are talking about.

sorry i cannot be a bigger help. i am not an evolutionist. i prefer creationism it is a much better story even if it is inaccurate. i would have just left a comment but then i would have to wait until you pick a best answer. hopefully a serious evolutionist will give you a well thought out answer and cite their evidence.

Your argument is based on willful ignorance. That is the explanation.

The actual rate at which the moon recedes from the earth is 3.8cm per year. The moon is at this time about THIRTY-EIGHT BILLION centimeters away at this time. You'd have to go back ten billion years, not two million, before they would touch. There is a huge difference between those numbers. Your math is so far off there is no reason to take you seriously.

And this also has not a thing to do with evolution, just your delusional need to believe in a young earth in spite of evidence.

I don't know what you base your figures on but if the moon is moving away at an inch and a half a year, 4 billion years ago it would have been about 95,000 miles closer to the earth. The figures you gave show only a difference of 4 miles.

Have a look at http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=124.

The moon is actually moving more than an inch a year. It's due to the tides. The earth is slowing down, too, for the same reason.

If you're really interested in an answer, which it is clear you are not, it is important to know that all phenomena don't scale back as you've suggested. We have evidence of tides from millions of years ago, and the reference given details some of it.

Please note that the Bible does not advise that you pay attention to astronomical observations of any sort. Your close examination of physical phenomena such as this, and your demand that others provide independent proof of Biblical doctrine is a demonstration that your faith is exceedingly weak. This, in turn, is a poor reflection on the quality of your Christian education, your pastor, and your church.

Are you really this brainless that you don't understand that evolution has nothing at all to do with the creation of the universe, the creation of the solar system, and the revolution of moon? You do realize that evolution ONLY has to do with already living things..... right?

What you want is an explanation about astrophysics, geology, and more. I have neither the time nor the inclination to spend trying to teach you any of that. Why don't you go ask this idiotic question in the science section and see the answers from people who have actually made this sort of study their lives hmm? Or are you scared of getting a real answer that you probably won't be able to understand so you won't even attempt to try to make sense of it? Rather like you're doing now.

Um...pal...I thought it was a couple of inches AWAY the planet...but I could have been wrong...also, it's a theory, they haven't been able to work out the kinks in the *theory* Also, the moon was created when the Earth and a Mars sized object collided at some point in our history. The explosion and resulting debris then made a ring around the Earth (Think Saturn 'cept smaller) and it condensed into the moon, maybe in stationary orbit for a while or not, I don't know...hope this helped.
-EDIT- Sorry, I was looking at the T.V. and didn't catch what I typed...

There are large holes in your knowledge.
The moon controls the tides.
Tidal waves are not the same thing as tides.
There is no evidence that the moon has been moving away at a constant rate for 4.5 billion years.

Well the closer something is to the earth the more the earth gravity effects it. So when the moon was closer it would have moved away slower. So your math would be way way off. Also many theory (and yes this is just a theory) hold that the moons mass originated from the earth.

Actually, the Moon recedes faster: 3.8 cm per year or 1.5 inches per year. As the distance is over 15 billion inches, this is not radically different than 4.5 billion years ago. The Moon would be half as close.

Why would you expect an evolutionist to explain the movement of 'heavenly' bodies?

Actually, you have a pretty good point. The moon was probably knocked loose from the earth before the earth had fully coalesced. That's why it's still moving away from us.
