there are alot of things I've learned that can be argued. but here's something that you'd have to be an idiot to argue.

If X is so, then Y is so:

If the world is NOT a few thousand years old, then religion was made up by man to explain the unknown with logic and imagination.

regardless of whether or not you believe...there is no way the planet is only a few thousand years old. if that ONE piece of the structure is missing, then the entire structure collapses.

even so...I still want to live in the fantasy and delusion faith offers...because reality is too brutally honest.

IMHO, to make the best choice, one needs to forget about religion. Religion is things people do to make themselves *feel like* they are pleasing God. Religion is a custom(s) that man takes part in. Religion is man made...

Instead, concentrate on reading the Word of God and praying for God to show you His will. Develop your relationship with Jesus--your Savior.

And yes--this relationship is worth investing your life in. As the saying goes: "Work for the Lord--the pay may not be much--but the retirement plan is out of this world!" :-)

As for everything else, a person either believes that God is almighty, or not. The choice is yours. I pray that the Lord opens your heart and eyes to the Way, the Truth and the Life--in Jesus Name.

I would never try and talk you out of your religion, but I'd like you to know that although the fantasy of faith is comforting and safe, reality isn't all that painful, in fact, I don't know why Christians can't just throw away that goofball bible and love God or Jesus or the Lord of the Dance or whomever they want ... without all the "bible-cadabra." I mean, it IS the new millennium.

I'm an agnostic but I dislike the term non-believer because it's negative. That's why I use the phrase "free-thinker" which some have said they don't like. Well, fair enough; some don't like it. But getting to the point ... I'd like you to consider this. If you're open to the idea that the Earth can't possibly be only a couple of thousand years old, (given that fossils ALONE are estimated to be a few million years ancient) then believe in the stuff that you can and discard the stuff that is whacked.

I live in a really nice reality! LOL It's where nobody tells me what to think or believe or do. I am responsible for my own goodness, morals and beliefs. I go to no church to be one of the whole group, or be judged by peers. I take care of my own mortality. I love it.

If anything, I would suggest you not let others tell you what you can and can't believe in. You are just as correct in what you choose to believe in as any other Christian.

Do it YOUR way. And good luck.

.

You're right. I don't know the exact number, but it's more like a few million years old. You are also right that religion was made up by man. God doesn't need religion. He doesn't need us to believe that he is God to be God or to do what he does. Religion is a way of coming together to praise and give thanks and worship God and to ask him or what we need. Yes, he knows what we need already, but he wants us to be aware of what we need and aware that we need to ask for it.

I am a Christian as a Catholic. (Some "Christians" don't believe Catholics are.) I am also an evolutionist and a believer that the big bang is more probable than not and certainly more probable than either of the two creation stories in the bible. I believe that God allowed evolution to happen as it did and allow the universe to come into being the way it did. I do not think the God and science are mutually exclusive. Nor do many Christians who are scientists.

I also think that it's good that you are questioning your religion. Blind faith is not a good thing and only leads us astray. God gave us the ability to think and discern. He expects us to use these gifts as well. Only you can decide after your questioning and researching and prayer, whether or not religion or the religion you were raised in as opposed to another is worth investing your life in.

Your analysis is partially valid. It is possible to recognize the reality of the earth's history, and that the parts of the bible which relate thereto are fictional, without necessarily invalidating the rest of it. But it is appropriate to consider any evidence that you can find. Noted Catholic theologian Hans Kung, in an exhaustive examination of the matter [ref. 1] correctly concluded that neither the existence nor non-existence of god could be proven on the basis of logic or evidence. But that does not mean that no evidence exists; there is a fair amount, and all of it supports the idea that there is no such thng as a god [ref. 2]. It is useful to consider the merits, if any, of religious belief; it appears that these are slim indeed [ref. 3]

IM so sorry you were told that your bible was History and not metaphor. When your told its history then you lose the message Religion become an extension of the police department. That is very sad. You could read the bible and apply the metaphor to you and your path. That is the purpose of religion . YOur supposed to read the bible and apply it to your life. So that you can be more like Christ. Your not supposed to read it like a history book.ITs a metaphor. THat is what makes it a living book.
Maybe you should not hand out with dead people. Find some people who live the bible and who see the bible as dynamic and dont take the stories to be history/ That pretty sad.

Seek out the truth and you will find that God's Word is 100% accurate. It takes years of study to learn that all the so-called errors are nonexistent, and that official history is a lie.But you can find real history if you do the homework.Christianity is not a religion.

All these people telling you yah or nah, ignore them. The only one person who can tell you if christianity is right for you is you. Do your own research and then you decide by yourself. No one can answer this question for you because it is an intimate decision.

BTW I forgot to mention that I am christian and there are some of us out there that don't want to force the religion on people. If ya do then great and if ya don't well then I have love for ya anyways because regardless you are my fellow man/woman.

Take a look at:
http://www.trueorigin.org/helium01.asp

for instance.

On the other hand, how do you explain your relationship with God? If you haven't had any real relationship with Him, you may think you have been a Christian, without being one.
You need to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and begin to find out that He is real and active in your life.

You can have ethics without religion. However, if you choose to keep religion, that is your choice. Enlightenment or not. Let your heart guide you on your path. if the religion you are in does not resonate in your spirit, then wak away and follow your own path.
