and should we still keep from eating it?

or do things in the bible change..

can God say one thing and be very serious about it like "don't eat this forbidden fruit"

and then years later can that law not apply to us?

You still have cute horns...

Yes that Law still applies to us

Luke 23:29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed [are] the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
They will not eat the "forbidden fruit"

Does that give a "clue" of what really happened in the Garden?

We don't know what the name of the fruit was. All we know that there were two trees that God said to leave alone. One held the fruit for eternal life, and the other held a fruit of knowledge of good and evil.
Eve is commonly blamed for eating the forbidden fruit, she herself immediately blamed the devil, but never the less Adam took a bite as well. He blamed Eve.
Ever since then we've been blaming everyone else for all the wrongs in the world and never taking credit for our own wrongs.
God can be talked to. We can reason with Him, He even says so. He has told us that we can come and sit with Him and reason together. It is even possible for Him to change His mind, He has done so many times by intercession on our part of righteous men and women. Moses' wife changed God's mind, Lot reasoned with Him as well at Sodom & Gommorah.
There are laws He created that do not apply now only because of the Lord Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice, the greatest love there is to give. His life so that we may live.
I hope this helps some. Take care.

There is only 1 tree of the forbidden fruit, and that's in GoE.

The Bible just says it was fruit; it doesn't specify what kind of fruit it was except that it was on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. So I don't think you have to worry about it.

The fruit of the knowledge of good and evil is an illustration. It was not an actual fruit. Biblically, the "fruit" of something refers to what comes from it. "You will know them by their fruits". Therefore, the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil simply has to do with second guessing god, in that you know more than he does. Hence clothing themselves needlessly.

the forbidden fruit was an apple

no one knows. it probably wasn't an apple (apples aren't native to the area where theologians think the garden might have been in)
some theologians think it was a pomegranate.
