Someone else had mentioned this idea earlier in one of their answers. The more people you recruit the greater your reward in heaven?

How many until you can get a new laptop or better yet... a new RV?

I'm looking for a verse from New Testament to read at my friend's wedding. I'm not very religious but respect her views, so I'm trying to find something that we can both comprise on. Something about love or marriage that is not overly religious and does not have references to "faithfully submitting", comparing church and Jesus to various things in the relationship, etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Here are the ones I suggested that were voted down by the bride:
I Corinthians 13 - apparently everybody picks that one so she wants something different
Mark 10:6-9 - too close to the Old Testament reading they chose
1 Corinthians 16:14 - too short

Do you feel lost not knowing what to believe? Have you been raised/tried out other religions but still have not found the one in which you belong?

It's mind-boggling to me how God has existed eternally and decided to just create us. I mean, if a man created a world with living beings, and told these beings that they were to worship him, and follow his commands, would you have respect for this man? So I've been told, the human mind simply isn't capable of resulting in a conclusion to questions such as "why are we here"...but frankly sometimes I just get angry with God and interpret him as a being on a power trip. Have you ever had questions like this? Have you come to a resolution? Have you chosen to simply ignore them?

P.S. I've just heard so much crap about how natural disasters are a sign from god, then isn't cancer and disease his way of punishing people and why did he give grandma cancer, she was nice.

Ever wonder if you're practicing the right religion for your beliefs, or if there's a faith out there that's really right for you? It's possible you might be compatible with more than one religion since many religions share similar takes on certain subjects. In fact, it's possible that you're more compatible with religions other than the one you believe in. I just want to know which religion you're most compatible with based on your belief system.

I was raised all my life to believe in this scientific, metaphysical religion, but everything sounds true & makes sense, but the people who go there are hypocrites & don't practice what they preach. Also, in bible class, the people pop their gum & suck hard on their candy, making it hard for me to pay attention & concentrate. But I'm a grown woman, & everything they see me do, they always run back & tell my former foster mom & waits until she fusses at me to fall out laughing. & they always preach that you should help your bretheren out & if they don't have transportation, then offer them a ride. But if I need a ride, they tell me to go & ask my foster mom. & they laugh at me because of the way I dress & wear my hair & treat me like an outcast. & then because I have a mental disability, they look @ me like I'm crazy & think I want attention, when I don't. I want to go back to bible class, but all these issues are stopping me, & I don't wanna go to hell. Please help

i believe in God and all, though i'll admit i'm not a very religious person.

i dated this guy for a long time, we were each other's first loves. and then even though the relationship ended friendly, we haven't spoken in a year and a half. its painful to see him, but yet i run into him constantly ! at the store, etc. and i keep asking God to please either let me have him back in my life fully, or not at all, because the way things are right now are just too painful.

i know i must be looking at this the wrong way.
can someone please help me?

I have major hearing problems.

I used to hear perfectly well until age 20. I am now 25 years old.

I gradually lost my hearing, but I hear sounds perfectly well. At least I passed the test that they gave me recently, a test to see if I was hearing sounds. I hear the beep sounds that they gave me just fine...

My problem is: I can't hear when somone is talking, although I can hear their voices...

I would be standing next to a group of people and hear their conversation but can't read what they're saying at all... All I would hear is their voice and no words.

What can be done about this?

Hearing aid is not an option, since hearing aids increase the sound volume, which is not my issue.

I've been checking with my doctors very often lately. Wax is not my issue, either.

Check out this website:

http://www.carm.org/bible/prophecy.htm

And let me know what you think. It talks about how there were prophecies about the crucifixion, etc written 1,000 years before Jesus was born. I have never read the Bible all the way through. I am wondering, is it proven fact that parts of the Bible were written 1,000 years before the rest of it? Or, is this just something that Christians assert? Thanks.

People always ask about the meaning of life. I have an answer.
The meaning of life is the experience of life. Think about it. It's pretty brill. experience changes. The meaning of life changes. Experience is sometimes good sometimes bad. The meaning of life is...etc. Experience is sometimes satisfying and sometimes confusing. The meaning...etc. Whatever your experience is, there is your meaning and whatever your meaning is there is your experience.
WOOOOOAH. Okay God squad go ahead and chime in with some psalms everybody else tell me wht you thinks

I've received different reasons from Christians in three different phrasings of the question.

"You can't prove he didn't eliminate cancer".

Uh, yes I can, as people still get cancer in today's society.

"Eve's sin brought evil into the world and so we have cancer" (Pandora, anyone?)

Immediately: "Anyone who tells you Adam and Eve caused cancer doesn't know the Bible".

I realize there are a ton of denominations, but you should at least solidify how evil came to exist, that would be helpful in the brainwashing process.

(KJV) I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
(NIV) I will proclaim the LORD's decree: He said to me, "You are my son; today I have become your father.

Particularly when this is contrasted with John 3:16.
(KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I don't think "son" and "begotten" mean the same thing in the two verses, particularly in light of the two disparate stories of David and Jesus. However, I'm confused what about what it means in relation to David. Does anyone know the original, untranslated wording and the textures of meaning behind each? I'm thinking my curiosity will be answered there, rather than in the study of English translations.
