If you have an abuse history, can you tell me how it affected your attitude towards faith and God? Especially if the abuser claimed to be a Christian?

I have a sexual abuse history, from a stepfather, and that produced some heavy life struggles in general for me, even after I became an adult. But the person who abused me never claimed to be a Christian, and hated that I was because it took away a lot of his control. Abuse drove me TO faith, but I can see how being hurt (esp. by church members) can drive someone away, or at least to confusion.

Please tell how it affected you?

Compare that to South Korea which is largely Christian.

This should tell you something. If you have ears to hear it.

In Matthew 6: versus 5 & 6, Jesus himself tells Christian how to pray. "And now about prayer. When you pray, dont be like the hypocrates who love to pray publicly on street corners and in synagogues where everyone can see them, I assure you, that is all the reward they will ever get." "But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly. Then your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you."

This is Jesus telling you how to pray. But all the time I hear Christians praying aloud at church, at the dinner table, and if they had it thier way even in our classrooms. Evangelicals will get on national television and start praying. Umm, did you guys miss this verse?

First off, I want to say a was raised Catholic and I am very familiar with the Catechism of the church.

My question is this. Why do Catholics claim they do not worship Mary when asked if they do? They will tell you they just pray to Mary for intercession with her son. So she can mediate in behalf for us.
First off, if you don't worship something or someone, why would you pray to it or them. Prayer to me is a form of worship.
Second, she makes intercession on our behalf with her son.
How many mediators do we need? I though Christ was the mediator between God and man. But, now we need a mediator to him. Where does it end? Should we have a mediator between us and Mary as well?

1)

If you change someones name and what he looks like - Aren't you changing who he is!?

We know his real name was Jushua (Yeshua) - I know they say the Greek name is Jesus but if you name were Jenny and it translated into Joanne and someone yelled out Joanne - would you respond. When I listen to foreign radio stations like in Japan, Germany, ect - the still call Jay Z - Jay Z.

We know he was not white.
The only white people in that region are the Jews from Europe.

So recently I have been on a quest to find a christian based (as that was my upbringing...I know I must be insane)church that we can attend occasionally for my children......I have spoken to many pastors, priests, ect........No one will talk to me about their church and their belief system, they are only interested in talking to me about my speech impediment.
My question is....these men of God have the chance to "save another little soul", so why can't they just let the whole speech impediment thing go...I don't need fixed, I'm not looking for their help (not that they could), I've even had one who wanted to hold a prayer vigel for my speech impediment......
I guess it's my own stupidity... Did I just open myself up there??
