It was written by at least three different people at a much later time. There are many stories repeated in different wording which reveal who might have written them. "Who Wrote the Bible" by Richard Elliott Friedman is an excellent source.

Atheists ascribe its sources to humans. Needless to say, Judaism (see Pereq Heleq) regards this as a VERY serious sin.
