For those of you who got the white-washed version of history, by their own account, Spanish Inquisitors lead by Pizarro would carry leather pouches of holy water. Before killing anyone under the age of seven (the age of reason), they would squeeze a little bit of holy water on to the sword.

Then, while pushing the sword into the brains of Aztec children, they would perform baptismal rites, thus ensuring the dying child's safe passage into heaven.

Why would they bother with this ritual if they were not men of faith? Certainly they were.

So since the child (ostensibly) ascended directly to Heaven, was the baptism a merciful act?

I am dying with thyroid cancer. I have met the love of my life but am not with him because I am married. My husband doesnt seem to care about me. I havent told either of them I am dying and dont know if I should because how could 1.) It be compartmentalized and 2.) I dont want to complicate the situation. I dont know how long I have but I dont want to hurt anyone or be alone. I also dont want anyone's decision to be with me based on this. What do I do?

"The child whispered,
" God, speak to me "
And a meadowlark sang,
But the child did not hear.

So the child yelled,
" God, speak to me! "
And the thunder rolled across the sky,
But the child did not listen.

The child looked around and said,
" God, let me see you "
And a star shone brightly,
But the child did not notice.

And the child shouted,
" God, show me a miracle! "
And a life was born,
But the child did not know.

So the child cried out in despair,
" Touch me God, "
Just to let me know you are here!
God reached down,
And touched the child.
But the child brushed the butterfly away,
And walked away unknowingly."

I'm just looking for a little bit on intellectual honesty. Whenever I post a question that is the least bit critical of Islam, I usually get very defensive responses that seem to suggest that there's nothing unusual going on, or that there isn't really a problem with Islamic Extremism. Do you deny it? Can you really compare an anomaly like a random "Christian" nut bombing an abortion clinic to 9-11, the London Subway attacks, the Beslan Massacre, the Bali train bombings, etc. Again, I'm not saying that all Muslims are terrorists (my gf is a Muslim), but doesn't it seem that being Muslim is the common denominator of the terrorist demographic almost without exception? Can you imagine it would be like if Christians, Jews, and Buddhists rioted every time there respective religion was supposedly insulted? Does any other religious community commit violence as a reaction to being called violent? No other religion needs such an enormous PR campaign to deflect criticism.

I've been doing seasonal fasting on a very limited basis for 20 years or so. By "very limited" I mean that I make sure (when I am in charge of the feast) that the feast food for Sabbats are limited to those that would be available at that time of year, usually from the perspective of the origins of my practice (Celtic).

I've recently been thinking about expanding my seasonal fasting, and found the article linked to below to be a very good guide for that.

My questions are:

1. Do you practice seasonal fasting?

2. If you do, for how long before a Sabbat do you practice it? Or do you practice it for a whole season?

3. If you do, do you limit yourself to the seasonal foods of the place of origin of your practice, or the seasonal food of where you live?

Here's the article:

Someone said in another question that God cannot answer a prayer because human free will may not allow him to do so. (For example, God cannot heal someone if a doctor, using his free will, administers the wrong kind of medicine.)

I've never heard this theory before. So where does it say that God's power is limited when people make stupid choices?

The amazing thing is that my compassion for the Native Americans is attributed to the fact that I am Atheist, yet this poster contradicts himself with a thinly veiled innuendo that I am full of hate.

This leads me to wonder how the gen-pop sees it - Who is more compassionate as a whole: Atheists or Christians?

Ok here is an easy one Jesus says in Matthew 13:31
"Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field,Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Which of the Following is a True statement
A.) Jesus being the son of god should know that the mustard seed is not the smallest seed in the world...He probably shoulda asked his dad about that one.
B.) The Smallest Seed is infact the epiphytic Orchid seed.
C.) Jesus wasn't really the son of god so he naturally could make a mistake
D.) Mustard seeds don't make trees
E.) All of the Above

I was raised Christian and do believe in a God. But I don't understand why MOST think so negatively.
Yes, I do admit to drinking, but that doesn't mean I'm a lush. Yes, I go to parties, bars, and concerts, but that doesn't mean that's ALL I do. In fact, if that's the worst things I am guilty of...I think I'm doing pretty darn well. Afterall, there are so many worse things I could do.
Aren't they taught that we are all sinners? Don't they realize that they are no better than me?

Sorry to rant so much. I'm just frustrated, due to the fact that I just received a rather nasty e-mail from my sister on this subject. It's so wonderful to have my character attacked by my only sister. Sheesh.

So my last question was if God appeared tonight at 8pm how would affect your faith.

The overwhelming majority said that it would either enhance your faith or remain constant as you already have total faith, I think a couple also conceded that none believers would have little choice but to get down on their knees and acknowledge that which they have doubted.

Good.

So. That said.

Why is it so important for God that his followers have faith with lack of visible evidence. Given that most of you said that his physically showing Himself would only enhance your faith and ultimately lead to more people worshipping Him.

Then why allow so many to not believe in him because they choose to trust the "god-given" senses and intellect that tell them that believing in a God is irrational.

Is it the case that God only wants people who ignore their senses and intellect to be taken to heaven during the "raptures"..

and if so, then why furnish us with such gifts as the ability to scrutinise??

Ok i just got done reading resposes to another question that was if all theists believe in creationism.

Nearly all of them stated that it was not a belief, but an acceptance of Scientific Fact. One guy stated that their was an enormous amount of FACTS to back it up.

Ok.. I would like to hear these Facts. Could someone please list them for me?

I would also like you to consider please that using a Scientific Theory that could be flawed to justify another scientific theory is not a fact.

eating, otherwise called oral sex with someone you not married to, does this scripture make it okay for other forms of sex, like perhaps anal?

Due to recent articles about Canada's decision as regards the children of Jehovah's Witnesses, many have claimed that abstaining from blood only refers to eating blood, and nothing else. So does this also apply to fornication and idols?
