I was raised Christian and do believe in a God. But I don't understand why MOST think so negatively.
Yes, I do admit to drinking, but that doesn't mean I'm a lush. Yes, I go to parties, bars, and concerts, but that doesn't mean that's ALL I do. In fact, if that's the worst things I am guilty of...I think I'm doing pretty darn well. Afterall, there are so many worse things I could do.
Aren't they taught that we are all sinners? Don't they realize that they are no better than me?
Sorry to rant so much. I'm just frustrated, due to the fact that I just received a rather nasty e-mail from my sister on this subject. It's so wonderful to have my character attacked by my only sister. Sheesh.

I'm a Christian. I argree with all that but, some things people, I as well, do without thinking is a sin. Drinking would be considered a sin. But you're right, no one is perfect. I try to think positively. If you do one thing wrong, you should get another chance. I'm not fully understanding what you're asking. Your sister shouldn't be giving you e-mails like that. God will give you another chance, so why can't your sister? Right? I mean this might not even help you, but I tried. =P Bye.

The real reason Christians are so quick to jump condemnation is to reaffirm that they are better than other Christians. They still live with the idea that there is some sort of ladder system to Heaven and if they're above everyone else that they will get in.
The truth is we are all sinners and condemned to the same punishment for those sins. Because I lied to my mother yesterday, I am the same as a guilty man sitting on death row. I am no better than any other Christian. Christ is the ultimate example of perfection and if you don't meet that expectation, you've failed. That's why Christ died on the cross for our sins.
On the other hand, we have to learn to accept the criticism of fellow Christians. I, for a long time, believed that my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ were simply condeming me. I was just labeling them, though, because of the guilt I felt for my own sin. They may have been labeling me sinner, but I was labeling them judgemental just the same. If your strong in your beliefs and believe what your doing isn't wrong, their criticism shouldn't bother you.
As far as drinking goes, I don't believe it is a sin to drink. The only Ephesians 5:18 says to avoid drunkeness, but there is also no explicit commandment. Jesus even drank wine at certain ceremonies. I don't drink because of another verse. Romans 14:13-23. Why should I do something that is questionable and could cause my brother to stumble? If someone sees me as a Christian at parties and bars drinking will they really care about what I have to say about the Bible? If I'm just like everyone else who isn't a Christian, what's the point?
We as Christians can become incredibly selfish and think that Christiananity is just about getting ourselves to Heaven. At first, that's what it is about, but after awhile, we need to grow up. Christiananity is about others. Jesus didn't die for his self, he died for everyone else. That's what the Great Commission is all about. Bettering ourselves to help save others. Like a fireman who trains to save others, we strengthen our faith to others.
I hope this all helpful to each aspect of your question and I do pray that you consider at least some of this.

There could be all sorts of reasons, but I bet with your sister, she has indulged in some of the behaviors she condemns and feels guilty about it. So, she lets you "have it" since it's hard to be hard on ourselves. The "Christians" who think they are better than others really aren't Christians. God is supposed to be the only judge. However, a lot of people forget that and I think to show how "holy" and "righteous" they are, they feel free to judge and condemn others. Just continue being who you are.

Don't let your sister upset you. Maybe she is just worried about you. We Christians and more importantly God loves you no matter what so don't worry. And please remember, we look to Christ as our example not each other. Perhaps consider becoming the person you wish other Christians would be and set the example you desire to see. God said we will be judged based on the measure we use to judge others. I would suggest you return the love to your sister you wish she would show you. This will shock and convict her and be good for both of you.

She "thinks" attacking you will score brown nose points - oops, brownie points - with "god" instead of the "whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers etc." rule. Under the "love thy neighbor" rule, "neighbor" includes family.
The zealots in the religious reich are too busy looking for others to attack instead of cleaning their own house first. The Repugnants - oops, republicans - covered up for Mark Foley while attacking gays publicly; 1 in 25 catholic priests is a pedophile, yet they tell people how and who to have sex with; the god squad criticizes Clinton for getting a jow blob in the "O"val office instead of criticizing the likes of Newt Gingrich (4 wives, 3 times and adulterer) or Rudi Guiliani (cheats on his wife while she's dying of cancer and doesn't care if she knows).
And _those_ are the people who claim moral superiority?

We are all governed by our thoughts, our conscience,... I don't think it's a sin to smoke, drink, go to bars/concerts/parties,... Being a Christian, means to be Christ-like. When in a dillemma, you would wonder, what would Christ do? and then you act accordingly,.. If your conscience can't take the act, then you start to hurt yourself,.. Remember if we sin, we don't merely sin against God, we sin against ourselves.
Act according to your guilt/conscience. In the end, it's not what others think of us that counts, but what we think of ourselves.
Jesus dwells in our person, in our spirit, we can either make Him shine thru us or we can keep Him secluded to the corner of the heart.

Im a Christian, I drink, attend the occasional rock concert, i try to stay away from bars, but ive spent enough time in them. Your faith in Jesus Christ saves you. When you have faith you love others and your God. I tell people about Hell not because I judge them but because i dont want any one to go there.

no longer all Christians offered into the "sin regularly sins" mentality in course of homosexuality. and many that did income this did so without extremely understanding they'd. yet you're fantastic that we would want to always manage gay habit as no different than the different sin. and that i also agree that we opt to be so a lot more effective compassionate in our mindset to those who warfare with SSA (same-sex charm) that many Christians were interior the previous.

I don't agree with your suppositions, so it hard for me to argue against your arguments...i.e. that "most" think so negatively. basically everyone I know (with few exceptions) are christians and I think we have overall a better outlook on life than the avg person. It sounds to me like you are talking about your sis in particular...I wouldn't compare a sisters wrath with the average christian...ya know?
