It's an oral history. It was passed down, word-of-mouth, father to son, from Adam to Seth, from Seth to Enos, from Enos to Cainan, for 40 generations, a growing, changing, story, it was handed down, word-of-mouth, father to son. Until Moses finally gets it down on lambskin. But lambskins wear out, and need to be recopied. Copies of copies of copies of copies of copies of copies of copies of an oral history passed down through 40 generations.
From Hebrew it's translated into Arabic, from Arabic to Latin, from Latin to Greek, from Greek to Russian, from Russian to German, from German to an old form of English that you could not read. Through 400 years of evolution of the English language to the book we have today, which is: a translation of a translation of a translation of a translation of a translation of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of an oral history passed down through 40 generations.

And people want to take that literally?

We no longer need meat in our diet yet the average person consumes over 80 animal carcass' a year. Meat is bad for our health, the environment and the animals. Foods like hamburgers and hot dogs are bad for us and yet we consume them at a record pace. They are eaten only for entertainment. It takes lots of oil, water and 15 lbs of grain to make 1 lb of meat. It takes a lot of plant life just to produce a little bit of meat. Are our forks the worst weapons of mass destruction ever known? Can we really treat other beings badly because we think they are sub human? In history we treated the Jews, women and slaves badly because we thought of them as sub human but now we know better. Will we know better someday as to how we treat innocent animals?

In some mystery religions of the past, there was a chief god which was the equivalent of the God of the monotheists and the other gods were what became the Angels that many today believe in. A most important of these gods was Mitras, the Sun God. Mitraism was the main religion of the Roman Empire before Christianity became the established religion of Rome.

There are many parallels between the life of Mitras and Jesus. Mitras was born on December 25 and had twelve disciples. He had a last supper before being crucified and resurrected. Ultimately he rose to heaven on a cloud. Given that Tarsus, the birthplace of Saul who later changed his name to Paul, was a center of Mitraism and that December 25, was chosen as the birth of Jesus many biblical scholars believe that some of the more mythological aspects of the New testament may be derived from the myth of Mitras and Mitraism.

PS, if you get your beliefs from you parents, that is blind faith, you need not reply

Only answer if you believe in the Bible:

how did Adam and Eve know that eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was wrong? Because God told them. How did the Israelites know not to sacrifice their children? Because God told them. How do we know what's right and wrong?

This article was posted as a link about the scientific miracles of the Quran. Dr. Bucaille alleges that it was miraculously revealed to Mohamed that it is semen which actually makes women pregnant. Isn't that a miracle (lol). I guess the rest of the world in the 7th century thought the stork brought babies?

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that 'greed' -- for lack of a better word -- is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

Does anybody see a parallel between people who are willing to suspend disbelief regarding the existence of a God (i.e. the willingness to believe without evidence based on what they are told), and the people who were willing to accept the existence of WMD in Iraq without evidence based on what we were told?

It seems that people who were convinced of the WMD and Al-Queda link rationale for the invasion of Iraq were more likely to be people who believe in God than those who don't. Do you think there is a connection in people who think this way?

*** I myself WAS convinced that the WMD threat was real and the Al-Queda connection existed, as I could not imagine Bush or his advisors going to war based on the purported evidence, knowing full well the evidence would be revealed either at the outset of the war or by the next Democratic Administration. Blair sealed the deal in my mind when he said he had seen evidence too.

However I am an atheist and believe in the scientific method.

To my understanding God is love all love flows from him. If you do not know him how can you ever say to someone that you love them if love is not present in you. Would this not be a lie? Or is it that you would have a false sense of what love is and not even know that it is not true?

Serious answers only please! You do not need to show your lack of intelligence and maturity here! Nor do you need to show any conformation that you may be demon possessed by your answer!

There seems to be some accusations that JW's have written their own bible to suit their beliefs. Although they have a translation of the bible, does it "suit" their beliefs?

Jehovah's Witnesses have made adjustments to their beliefs for years, including recently. Why have they adjusted their beliefs according to "their" bible, why not adjust their bible as so many claim they do?

Another point, the New World Translation is published in about 55 languages, yet as an organization are in 235 lands and countries, in fact, the What Does God Require Of You brochure is published in nearly 270 languages.

What bible do JW's in those languages use? They use local versions and translations, including King James, NIV amongst others. JW's across the globe are not all using the New World Translation, yet why do they all know and learn the same thing?

It's not necessarily the particualar bible --- could it be they are taught the truth from whatever bible is used?

Pontius Pilate asked this question of Jesus during His trial. There seem to be only two possible answers to the question:
1. Truth is whatever we internally decide it is...in other words, our perception creates reality, and thus there really is no truth since everyone may believe completely contradictory things to be true.

2. Truth is revealed externally from us and it is true for all people of all times regardless if anyone believes it.

Defective, because of earthquakes, fault lines, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes etc, killing sinners and innocent babies alike.
Unhappy, as every body has wories and sorrows and thousands commit suicide every year. They are effectively telling God "take back your lousy life, I do not want it"

It is no use passing the buck and blaming man and the devil and Eve who ate his apple. The blame goes to the top and I am told he has been in charge since before I was born. Unless He starts saying sorry for the mess and doing something about it, people will be voting for another president.
