Whoops. I was trying to write, I think that people need a sermon every week (or some everyday) because it is the place where they feel connected to their God and because every day is different. Everyday, even if it was the same exact sermon, they would hear a new message (like when I watch one of my favorite movies over and over again)

I come to church to meditate. I don't want the pastor to talk too much, I want to be able to communicate with my spiritual side by myself. When the pastor does talk, I wouldn't want him/her to judge others (whether the judgment is passed on abortion, other religions/traditions, sexual preference, the way people raise their children...etc.). Rather I would want the pastor to be just a spiritual adviser, to tell us how to cope with our everyday feelings and lives.

As an example, the following is what I remember from one of the beautiful sermons that I've ever heard (of course it's not a direct quote, so no quotation marks, but imagine that it's the pastor talking and not me):

One day I was talking with brother Dimitri and we were discussing how the feelings of sadness and depression persist in our society and especially our youth. He told me he knew the best cure to melancholy that did not need drugs, and of course I became really interested in what he had to say. He told me, as I am now telling you, that when you're feeling sad and depressed, and when you're feeling like you can't see any light showing the path, you have to go very very deep inside of your soul and stand on the tip toes at the edge of the abyss that is your sadness. You have to lean in and look into its darkness, don't just face it but also contemplate it. And when you're done, when you feel like you can't take it anymore, like it is going to swallow you whole and send you straight to hell..... go up to the phone, call a friend or a family member or a colleague and invite them to have a nice, hot cup of tea at your house (hopefully with some honey or strawberry jam on the side).

See? No judgment passed, didn't even mention Christ or anything about being saved through Christianity, just genuine interest in the well being of others (and to me that's what Christianity is all about). Really, what can be better and more touching than that? Well, may be different things touch different people. But at least his words didn't go empty on me.

I'd like to hear a sermon that addresses the issue of why you need to hear a sermon every week. Those of you who have been listening to sermons for years and years should get it by now. You're new creatures, born again in Christ with new natures.....Right? Why do you need to hear the same ol same old?

I'd like to hear a sermon on unconfessed sins, and the consequences of not obeying God's Word.

Peace,

Hope

It is said that most good sermons are really just examples of the preacher talking to himself, saying the things he (or she) most needs to hear. And the congregation gets to listen.

Unitarians love this question. I guess it helps them whenever they wanna blend more beliefs together lol
Anything I guess. You're (meaning anyone who sits in the church pew)the one who chooses to go to church and hear it. No one forces you, so anything bibical would be right.
Did you guys here about canada? Apparently, the bible is seen as "hate-speech" because it holds a particular view. Heaven forbid we have a personal view. It might be viewed as "hate-speech." Especially if it just-so-happens to coincide with the bible. . .
I guess I shouldn't say anything about not murdering anyone. . . It might be a hate speech.
