To my understanding God is love all love flows from him. If you do not know him how can you ever say to someone that you love them if love is not present in you. Would this not be a lie? Or is it that you would have a false sense of what love is and not even know that it is not true?

Serious answers only please! You do not need to show your lack of intelligence and maturity here! Nor do you need to show any conformation that you may be demon possessed by your answer!

It is not necessary that you know God the only requirement is that God know you which it does, it knows everyone everything and everywhen. And the Love is a free gift given to everyone.

I am not going into the long version of this but Gods idea of love is a little different than what most humans consider love. In Gods eyes the greatest act of love one person can do to another is give them the opportunity to know the Lord so they can be saved and enter the Kingdom of heaven. Most people believe that loving someone means to accept that their living in sin is okay and just leave them alone and let them go to hell.

There are different kinds of love. The Bible says God is Love in 1 John 4:8. The word here is from the Greek word agape, which was used in a special way in the New Testament, and took on a new meaning through the Gospel, which depicts God, having become a man, and dying on the cross for the sins of His creatures who had so grievously revolted against Him and become estranged from Him. It is this supernatural, transcendent love of God that is characterized by the word agape.
The more common Greek word for love was phileo, also frequently used in the New Testament, but this means more a love of affection, a love of friendship, springing out of a liking or attraction to another. Another word for love, found in a few compound nouns in the New Testament is storge, which means primarily a natural affection for ones own family, or fellow citizens or other members of a society one is connected with. The other Greek word for love is eros, which is sexual love, and is not used by the authors of the New Testament,

Love is subjective to one's feelings. If you think of that person all the time and can't stand to be apart; that's probably not real love. But if you would give your life for someone or your complete trust, then that is love. Yes God is love and all love flows from him. It flows to his children; us! Whether you know it or not, just by your question, you are blessed with God's love. So you see, you can love another :-)

I don't believe in any gods of any sort...but I suspect that your god not only teaches you love but a fair amount of hate as well. The proof is right here in Yahoo Answers and can be found in just about every topic. I offer comments about gays and lesbians as just one illustration of so called "loving" Christians that "hate" these people. Go read most comments made by Atheists and you will be hard pressed to find as much hatred and bigotry from them as you do from those that claim to be religious.

Tough question: I believe that by breathing life into our lungs, God is loving us. God loves His creation, just like any (good) father loves his child. We love because He first loved us. God has given us the choice; I believe that's why there is evil in the world. We decide either to love or to hate. When we say we love someone, that is not a lie. But our love from human to human is not anything like the love that God has for us. If we love Him more, we will be able to love others (including out enemies) because of His love and light through us. Hope this helps....

First of all, I am highly intelligent, scored in the 99th percentile on all my school acheivement tests. Intelligence has nothing to do with whether you can ascertain for yourself how you got here, or the overall mysteries of life in relationship to perceived religious concepts.
Unfortunately, you stereotyped yourself already with your opening statement--making the assumption there is some god out there that you believe in, therefore you can pass judgement on those who do not believe as you do. How about this: certainly I have love, have great feelings for love for many people, my family, friends, even my cats and dogs. So, since I am athiest and have love, that must therefore disprove your theory that "god is love". Sorry to burst your bubble. Maybe someday you will reach the level of enlightenment and understanding of the universe that most of us ignorant athiests have attained.

All relationships start with getting to know each other and this is also the same for a relationship with God.
We have to read about God in the Bible and also the life of christ,by doing this we can see the love and mercy of God in action,we also come to know Him in prayer and although all this may seem time wasting it is actually the complete opposite, any journey begins with the very first step, too few today want to take it.

The question implies that a child also cannot love, for a child does not posses the knowledge of the existence of God. Does that mean children cannot love their parents?

There are many people throughout the world who do not know of God. Can they not love one another either?

Your understanding is flawed. God is not love, love is an emotional attachment to someone or something brought about by exposure to the beloved coinciding with chemicals of well-being and attachment released by the hypothalamus.

Is God in my hypothalamus? That WOULD explain the headache...

Everyone is created by God, by Love, and we are created for love.
As God's creatures we know from where we came, everyone knows that deep down.
Sometimes our love and knowledge is stifled by evil, in any appearance, so that we can't answer to God's call to love, at least for a time. The one who opens his heart to Jesus will know true love and follow it and seek also that others might know Him.

"In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He has loved us and sent us His only Son."
