I thought the idea of this forum was to give an original and personal answer of your own ... backed up by acknowledged source material where necessary, some of the long pasted answers are just being used as spoilers don't you think.

Is our fate well decided & if it is so then why to worship god? Is it only for the fear of hell which is pre planned for us by god?

I was having a discussion with a family friend who happens to be a member of a Pentacostal church. The topic of religion came up, and although I am strictly agnostic, I found myself 'pulling my punches' during the discussion. I realized I had no desire to try to talk this man out of his faith. (By the way, this guy is one of the good ones...completely non-judgemental and kind beyond words. If he was some raving hate-monger, I would not have felt that way.)

My question: Do you have any wish to 'convert' people? Would you feel badly if you suceeded, or would you feel you opened their eyes?

Imagine, somehow or other, you are blessed with the privilege of seeing God face to face, right in front of you, and you have the opportunity to ask anything . What is the most important question(s) you would like to have answered ? There are millions of questions that people ask , here at Yahoo Answers, and elsewhere, but what is the most vital question ?

...from conquering your world? I am building a mighty robot army in my underground factory and it is financed entirely by my good old friend (insert name of very rich man who I will not divulge). I have the capacity to do so and only a divine power can stop me. If there is no divine power than NOTHING CAN STOP ME!

Are you happy now?

The answer is about 3.95e9 km^3 of water.

And to get to this number I shaved about 850 feet off of Mt. Everest. To flood it today would take a lot more. This is about 100 times the amount of water in the polar icecaps and greenland, by the way. So even if you subtract out the volume of water trapped in the ice caps and greenland, we are still missing cube of water 900 miles high, wide and across.

Wonder where it went.

I always have conversations with family that somehow ends in religion. My family, though not practicing, is Catholic. We believe in God and his words. I always bring up the subject of the Ten Commandments and "You shall not murder". It all depends on how people view what happens in the afterlife if you commit any of those sins (i.e. go to hell or be washed of your sins and enter Heaven), either way, lets say you do go somewhere bad if you kill. My question has always been: If you murder someone with the intent to kill them in your heart, God sees this as a sin to send you to hell. What if it is in self-defense? What if you are serving in the war and kill many enemies fighting for your country? Does God differentiate the two? Catholic churches will not have a service for persons who have committed suicide or murder because of the sin. Well, what about all those who have died in war and received services. Does God see the rights and wrongs in murder? Or is it all the same in God's eyes?

Churches, mosques, temples and synagogues exist so that like-mided people can congregate together to strengtehn one another's convictions in living a more pure, and Godly way of life. The dissemination of spiritual knowledge and inspiration from it is one thing that people look for, as well as spiritual leadership.

In India, it is still a tradition that no one should visit a temple of Lord Krishna unless they receive some "prasadam" sanctified vegetarian food that has been offered to the Lord. It purifies. My teacher Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada said that a spiritual center or place of worship must have as one of it's priorities the distribution of santified food to everyone within a radius of ten miles of that place of worship. Hare Krishna temples offer a free vegetarian feast in 350 temples world-wide. Do you think this is important ? .Since most people don't seem to be so spiritually philosophical today, shouldn't feeding everyone with purifying food be a priority ?

Not too long ago, after careful appeals to the bible, Christian authorities declared African-Americans to be soul-less. The slavery trade, a trickle at the time, suddenly went into overdrive.

My question is this. After being enslaved, raped, displaced, beaten, killed, maimed and treated as a no-class citizen, why are African-Americans (as a demographic) among the most rabid followers of a religion that their oppressors forced on them?

I mean no disrespect - zero - none - but the notion stumps me. Any ideas?

In the OT you get Ezekiel, Rachel, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, and a host of other old names. Then, here comes the NT, and we get: Mary and Joe. And Mary's mom, Ann. Granted Jesus' name is still a bit odd, but his followers are Pete, Jim, John, Matt... you getting the picture? And notice: the ones who betray Jesus : Judas, Caiaphas, Annas. Hmm. Any thoughts?
