Do you believe that it can be effective or is it just medicine based on tradition rather than reality, or both?

I trust herbalism more than I trust modern medicines. Think about it, the 'creator' isn't going to recall Chamomile after hundreds of years because of 'possible questionable side affects'

But note, some herbs DO have really strong/negative side effects, just like modern drugs, so read up on something before you take it.

Considering that most Chinese medicines are based on the herbal idea, and it has worked quite well for them for over 5000 years, I would have to say that there is something to it. OF course, if you try it with the mindset that it will not work, it won't. It is not just what you put into your body, but how you view your body overall. The mind is the most powerful cure there is.

Actually both. There are many medicines I use in a hospital that are derived from plants. A common one is digitalis (used to increase the hearts strength and lower its rate) that comes from the foxglove plant. Capoten an ACE inhibitor (used for high blood pressure ) was derived from snake venom. ( from a Fleur de Lance, South American pit viper)

Herbs can be effective considering you don't have to worry about side effects. But sometimes medicine from the drug store works better. You have to have a balance between the. I guess.

There are natural things that compliment each other and others
that cancel each other out. One has to know which is which. I
imagine one can overdose on herbs. Talking more than needed.
