My understanding is that at one time, only a remnant, not all,
of the Jewish people kept the faith in the One God, while the rest of the peoples of Earth turned to idolatry. This gave God a soft spot in His heart for them. They are not chosen becaue they are better than anyone. They are the people God chose to work His will through.
The number 12 symbolizes 12 vortexes at work on or world that help to sustain Life here. That is what the 12 Tribes symbolized.
There were also 12 Princes of Ishmael,.There are 12 signs
of the Zodiac. When Christ returns He will call his Elect, 12,000
from each "tribe" from the four corners of the heavens, which
will make 144,000, a multiple of 12. This being some form of
spiritual power structure.
Those who accept the reality of their spirits, and help others to
bravely face the times ahead, will get a special reward this time around.

At one time; the chosen people of God were the African Leaneage of Abram, who is out of the land of Ur of the Chaldese, which is all the land of Ethiopia and its surrounding areas; which is why his name was changed from Abram to Abraham. His seed (meaning his decendents) were "the chosen" people of God; for they were to be the Salt of the Earth. But those people failed God, by persuing false gods, and desiring a king on earth... and because of that those people were punished, by being sent in to bondage (slavery), and their unique position in God's eyes being changed. Now, because God had to allow HIS Son to die in their stead, God's elect are those who accept the Sacrifice HE allowed... now, the Chosen of God, shall be them who not only accept HIS Son's Sacrifice, as well as do HIS will within the Law.
Take care you be not like them who think that "just because" we are all annointed. That is not true, nor can they direct you to where they get that idea from. It will be those people who will suffer in time to come
Remember Jesus words: Matt 7: 21-23
Beware.

Those who are born again, having accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. :D Those are the 'chosen' or 'elect' of God.
Romans 8:28-30 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 - For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 - Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also jusified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
1 John 5:10 - He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
1 John 5:12 - He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Not everyone will be 'chosen' by God, which means not all will have eternal life.
Matthew 7:21- 3 - Not every ione that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 - Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 - And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Romans 8:21 - Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

(Whatever that means).
The chosen people of God are (as we know them to be called): Christians. These are God's chosen people because they chose Christ as their Savior, reflecting that God chose them to become his adopted sons and daughters through Christ.
