You have considered the countries following religion as opposed to countries which believe in humanity. I am unable to understand what you mean by religion follower nation and believer in humanity countries? For example, in which category do you put India? It has no religion officially recognised. All religions are given liberty to propagate and preach. America is a country which has got the most Christianity professing people and yet it is considered to be one of the most developed country. Russia is a communist country. Religion has no place in communism. Russia's economy is not rosy.

The moral of the story is whether some nation is developed or not is not dependent on the religious faith professed by the people.

People who are well off often only turn to religion in times of crisis. When your whole life is a crisis, facing hunger, disease, war, drought etc. you would need to cling to some hope that you will be rewarded for your struggles in another life.
