Why do we come on here every night and do the very same song 'n dance? Nothing ever changes, no one ever gets a new mindset. Like every other religious venue, this has become a hate-filled stalemate, from every side. I keep trying to avoid it, but I get sucked in. I need help.

Was the Devil and does the Devil do God's work in testing the faith of humanity in God (IE - Eden, Job)? Is he the adversary of God or the adversary of Man? How do we know - to understand God's purpose for testing man through temptation, would we not have to understand God's plan which is impossible?

Was he expelled because the act of eating from the tree of knowledge actually defined the difference between good and evil, thus making hell and the Devil as God's adversary a requirement of the plan? Surely God knew this in advance so wouldn't that mean the Devil is angry because he knows he got played? (no matter how vital that was to the plan)

This, for arguments sake, casts Satan/Lucifer as the role of tempter. Perhaps he did fall, or is that just part of the story to create a choice for man to make between good and evil?

Perhaps Satan/Lucifer is in heaven with God right now, both knowing there is no hell, but us humans believing it exists is a vital part of the great plan?

There was this cool bumper sticker I saw once that took different symbols from different religions, and used them as letters (The cross was a T, the islamic moon was a C, The jewish star was an A, Yin Yang sign was an O) to form a word, something like "United"...only that wasn't it. Problem is I forgot what the word was and what symbols where used. If anyone knows what it was, or has the bumper sticker, or knows a link where i can find it, could you give it to me? I've been racking my brain trying to remember.

I know the best place is the Bible (that I'm reading) but also there is things that historians have found out through years and years of study that help open up the reading of the Word even more.

I would rather take historian authors because a true historian writes history without adding his opinion or interpretation. There are thousands of books with Bible history where authors give their interpretation of what happen here and their interpretation of what they think happen there, THEN there are the actual facts.

I know there has to be some theologian or historian books out there that focus on the facts and not THEIR beliefs. I want the facts. The Holy Spirit will be my interpreter. Please help!

Also interested in history of the Church. (ex: about Martin Luther, Paul, John Wesley, etc...)

THANKS IN ADVANCE ALL!!!

Do some people need religion as a built-in moral corrective,or like an extension of the law to check their tendancy towards anti-social behavior?

The three religions agree on one basic fact: Both women and men are created by God, The Creator of the whole universe.

However, disagreement starts soon after the creation of the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve. The Judaeo-Christian conception of the creation of Adam and Eve is narrated in detail in Genesis (2:4-24).

God prohibited both of them from eating the fruits of the forbidden tree. The serpent seduced Eve to eat from it and Eve, in turn, seduced Adam to eat with her.

When God rebuked Adam for what he did, he put all the blame on Eve,

"The woman you put here with me --she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it."(Genesis, 3: 12).

Consequently, God said to Eve:

"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you." (Genesis, 3: 16).

To Adam He said:

"Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree of which I forbideen you to eat, “ Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life..." (Genesis, 3: 17).

The Islamic conception of the first creation is found in several places in the Qur’an, for example:

"O Adam dwell with your wife in the Garden and enjoy as you wish but approach not this tree or you run into harm and transgression. Then Satan whispered to them in order to reveal to them their shame that was hidden from them and he said: 'Your Lord only forbade you this tree lest you become angels or such beings as live forever.' And he swore to them both that he was their sincere adviser. So by deceit he brought them to their fall: when they tasted the tree their shame became manifest to them and they began to sew together the leaves of the Garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: 'Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that Satan was your avowed enemy?' They said: 'Our Lord we have wronged our own souls and if You forgive us not and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be lost' " (7:19:23).

A careful look into the two accounts of the story of the Creation reveals some essential differences.

The Qur’an, contrary to the Bible, places equal blame on both Adam and Eve for their mistake. Nowhere in the Qur’an can one find even the slightest hint that Eve tempted Adam to eat from the tree or even that she had eaten before him. Eve in the Qur’an is no temptress, no seducer, and no deceiver. Moreover, Eve is not to be blamed for the pains of childbearing. God, according to the Qur’an, punishes no one for another's faults. Both Adam and Eve committed a sin and then asked God for forgiveness and He forgave them both.

I picture a scientist, a shinto priest, a rabbi, a catholic bishop, a daoist and an atheist sitting in a room. Each looks at a big white square and reports how many dots they see.

The scientist emperical evidence proves only 1 dot and says such. The zen monk says, I believe you need to study koan more to reach enlightenment - having reached enlightenment, I see more than 1 but less than 3 - you will know what that means if you meditate more. The rabbi declares with certainty that there are 3 dots - anything else is clearly false idolatry. The Bishop pipes in and says "Lord please save these people from the lies of the Devil - help them see the truth of 4 dots." The daoist says nothing, knowing that to speak would be to cloud the truth of simply being 5 dots. The Atheist wonders how irrational - what kind of person ignores the logic of seeing 6 dots, but says nothing - sick of being lectured.

God looks down and thinks "soon they will see the entire cube as the die it is"

If Christians would stop trying to deny rights to homosexuals, trying to outlaw abortions, trying to keep women from obtaining equal rights, and trying to impose their own morals - many of them non-biblical - on the rest of society, would they be more respected by others in society than they are now?
