If Christians would stop trying to deny rights to homosexuals, trying to outlaw abortions, trying to keep women from obtaining equal rights, and trying to impose their own morals - many of them non-biblical - on the rest of society, would they be more respected by others in society than they are now?

So, what you're asking is if they decided to stop their fight for world domination, would I respect them more? Yes, most certainly.

EDIT
People, COME ON, yes, everyone has the right to stand by their beliefs, however, PUSHING your beliefs on to someone only causes hostility, and THAT is not acceptable, no matter WHAT your beliefs are.

It is the Right-Wing Christians which are doing those things. The rest of us Christians who are moderate or lean toward the Left are not like that.
Anyone is entitled to their own opinions on the things which you mentioned but I can tell it's not just a different opinion that is the problem. It is What you referred to as "denying rights" and "imposing". And yes, I agree, it is non biblical. Ask anyone who is against Christianity in America today, what they think the problem is and I'm sure they will agree with you.

Having said that, there is no guaranty that Christians would be any more respected. We would still be accused of believing in fairy tales and such, and some would continue to disrespect Christians but it would not be with the same aggressiveness that you see today.

yes because that would show tolerance and acceptance
everyone ahs the right to believe what they want, Christians and other religious followers need to realize that not everyone believes what they do and they should stop imposing their beliefs on society

it is the natural right of a human being to believe and aceept whatever he so chooses, society has always imposed the concept of god, is there anyone in the world who doesn't know what 'god' is? imagine a world where society had imposed a disbelief in god, what would that be like?

Perhaps, but you make a lot of statements about Christians that are not always true and sometimes not even nearly always true.
1. I believe that homosexuality is wrong but I also believe this is a free country. So, if homosexuals want rights, I will not fight against them, but I am not going to support their cause either.
2. This is a free country, but abortion is murder. Murder is not excusable in a free country. Yes, Pro-abortionists have rights and should be able to vote, but so should their children.
3. I have not met any Christians who believe that women should not have equal rights as men. This is a stereotype that comes from the way people thought many years ago.

I'm an Atheist and I don't agree with abortion murders myself. People have a right to deny homosexuals in their church if it against their faith. and I don't know of any Christians who deny equal rights to women. I find nothing wrong with having high morals. I find I have more respect for them than I have for idiots like you. OO

What you are trying to impose is Christian doing this thing. it is not Christian nor Muslim. They are the person that never got religion. They born and baptise as what the religion of their parents is. Every places in the world made the same thing. That person made is the person never respect their own selves.

I don't know so much about "respect," as that should just be a given with every person anyhow. But I think the most uptight of them would be more enjoyable to have within our human "family" as a species, community, and society.

What you're describing, in a nutshell, is Christians trying to force their morality onto the General Public. No one appreciates that. If they stopped, homosexuals and women I'm sure would be very grateful.

Christians aren't against homosexuals. They are against sin. You can be a homosexual, but if you lie, we are obligated to tell you that you have committed a crime against God, and that you will be punished severely for that lie. We are against murder, so if someone murders a baby, they will be punished by God. Christians are here to warn those who kill that there is a real lake of burning fire that awaits all liars, all murderers, all fornicators, all homosexuals, etc.

If they remain pride filled, that is another thing God hates. The bible says he hates and works against pride.

See, we are obligated to share the truth, whether people believe or not. The reason is that we are going to be judged based on what we do. If we do not warn people of God's wrath, no matter how foolish it seems to them at the time, then their blood will be upon our hands. We will be shamed by God because we didn't love them enough to tell them that Sin leads to Death, and everlasting destruction.

If you were walking towards a cliff and were blindfolded, what would be the loving thing to do? Shouldn't I plead with you that you are heading towards a cliff and you will die? Do I really love you if I didn't? Jesus loves everyone, but if they choose to not listen, and ignore the truth here on earth, then there will be only God's Justice remaining for them after they die.

As a Christian, I do not ask you for respect. I do not ask you for rights. I do not ask you to go to church, or give to the poor. I ask you to consider what happens after you die, that you will be judged for your sins, and if you have broken the 10 commandments you will be cast into hell, unless you realize that Jesus died as payment for your sins. He used his perfect life to die for your sins so that you, a sinner like the rest of us, would not die but have eternal life if you repent of your sins and trust in Him.
