Why didn't people in the bible know that bats were not birds?

Leviticus 11
13 “These are the birds that are detestable to you. You must never eat them: the griffon vulture, the bearded vulture, the black vulture, 14 the kite, falcons of all kinds, 15 ravens of all kinds, 16 the eagle owl, the short-eared owl, the seagull, hawks of all kinds, 17 the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, 18 the barn owl, the desert owl, the Egyptian vulture, 19 the stork, herons of all kinds, the hoopoe, and the BAT.

1 Corinthians 2:10, we see the characteristic of omniscience in the Holy Spirit. “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.”

The Apostle Paul clearly taught that we receive the Holy Spirit the moment we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior.

So, seeking God, that pull to be closer to him is the Holy Spirit working in us, right? Is that a sign, to us Christians, that we have been saved, and by seeking God we are fulfilling the Holy Spirit?

If non-Christians want to answer with real answers, or what YOUR religion says about it, go right ahead. If however you feel the need to be rude or hateful, save yourself the time, and post it elsewhere, it will be ignored.

My friend & her boyfriend both awoke at the same time last night. Her boyfriend said he was awakened after supposedly hearing his father call his name. When he looked up he saw his father hanging in the corner of the room. My friend, who woke for an unknown reason but at the same time, also saw the same vision of the father hanging in the corner. They shared with eachother what they had just seen but were unable to understand why they had seen it. The father is still very much alive and well. If you have any idea or reason as to why this occured, please share. Thank you.

Looking at the latest Harris Poll on religion:

http://www.harrisinteractive.com/harris_poll/index.asp?PID=707

16% of Catholics, 10% of Protestants, 36% of Jews, and 3% of Born-Agains do NOT BELIEVE in God.

I've usually seen national atheists make up about 10% of the US population, so this means that Catholics are MORE likely to be atheists than the general population.

How is this possibly? Why do do people still practice their religions if they don't buy into them?

Other interesting notes from the poll: the younger and more educated you are, the less you believe in God... heh.

I've tried getting these answered and keep getting the run around - I'll just keep it to 2 questions about her sinlessness and assumption to heaven
where did these start, who said it, who witnessed it, when was it written down (it can still be in oral only tradition)
dont tell me b/c the church said so - thats not good enough for me... I've also already heard the Biblical references but tradition has been claimed also and this is what I would like to know more about
so far all I can find is that the sinless state of Mary became doctrine in the Roman Catholic Church in 1854 under Pope Pius IX
please fill in as many details as you know
thanks

Given the recent way of putting Christians down... the upsurge of people bent on removing Christ from Christmas celebrations... all the media hype about our schools outlawing the Christian message.

About banning the age old Nativity play that most people over forty took part in, being banned because of mixed races... where do you stand on this issue?

This is not a religious question... it's a general one.. to get the feel of 'real' change, inside today's UK society... as opposed to those who jump on the bandwaggon of the media's say so, that Christian's are being driven out.

Are you for Christ this Christmas?

Or are we really the Godless and Christian bashing society, we are being geared into believing?

I don't mind what your views are... so please, no abusive postings about believers from the sceptics... and no bible quotes of scripture, from Christians.

It's my own small survey as a Christian, so you'll know exactly where I stand;-)

Curiouser and curiouser??

I am content in knowing that Jesud died for me and I know I have a personal realtionship with God.

But I am not sastified with my realtionship with the Lord. I want to learn more, grow more become more and continue to over come.
Is this normal to be that way and to want more in a spiritual sense?

What is your take on this?

YUSUFALI: O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity" : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.
PICKTHAL: O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.
SHAKIR: O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only a messenger of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His messengers, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one Allah; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.

I dreamt that I was reading about the Anti-Christ in the newspaper, that he'd arrived and obviously, Christs' return was imminent.

I woke up and was petrified that I wasn't saved. And if I really was saved, then why was I anxious/really nervous about his return? I prayed that God would comfort me and He did, straight away...but why was I worried? Cos now I'm excited about Him coming back! Although a little bit anxious...is that normal???
