Regarding infidels (unbelievers), they are the Muslim's "inveterate enemies" (Sura 4:101). Muslims are to "arrest them, besiege them and lie in ambush everywhere" (Sura 9:5) for them. They are to "seize them and put them to death wherever you find them, kill them wherever you find them, seek out the enemies of Islam relentlessly" (Sura 4:90). "Fight them until Islam reigns supreme" (Sura 2:193). "Cut off their heads, and cut off the tips of their fingers" (Sura 8:12).

I have considered myself an agnostic atheist for my entire adult life. I believe it is impossible to prove the existence of any deity, but if pressed for a 'yes' or 'no' answer to the question, "Is there a higher being", I would have to answer, with confidence, "no".

That said, I also consider myself as someone who WANTS to believe that there is something more, something greater, and something past this life to look forward to. Those thoughts have not caused me to believe that there is something greater, but as I said, I would truly like to.

Are there other people whose religious beliefs are similar to mine, yet feel the same way?

It seems that there's an unquenched thirst for power. Many people who are affected by these power seekers live day to day with fears and are merely surviving instead of really living. There are others who are cocooned in their own little worlds and are content with what they've been told, no questioning....no thinking or reflecting. Then there are those who live for the moment; pleasure seekers who drift through life, spirituality is merely a topic for a 2 minute conversation. Amidst all this there are true seekers and those who are hopeful of a more enlightened world. Who will succeed? Is it worth trying?

I used to ask my dad "why does god do this or that" and was always met with "god doesn't need a reason, he's god". Was that a good answer?

That aside, I never stopped asking those questions to myself and have since abandoned religion for free thought and atheism.

Religion - A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

Before you say atheist here is my take on it, and some resources:

Atheism seems to be a widely followed religion today. If you go to http://ffrf.org/index2.php you will notice many similarities between atheism and other religions. Non-profit, just want to "spread the word" to the "uninformed masses", fighting the government to teach what we believe, tax-exempt membership fee, a "newspaper".

Atheism - The doctrine that there is no God or gods.
http://www.answers.com/topic/atheism
Doctrine - A principle or body of principles presented for acceptance or belief, as by a religious, political, scientific, or philosophic group; dogma.

Maybe an Agnostic that isn't zealous and simply has the knowledge that he/she doesn't know and doesn't care to prove he is right, or care what you believe.

I was brought up in a strictly Baptist house, with a former pastor as a step-dad, so i was never really taught anything but about the Baptist beliefs. Now i am older and wondering about the other religions out there. I am happy with my religion, and do not want to change, BUT i don't like hearing about friends who are Catholic or Episcopal (sp?) or anything else, and not know what the difference is. For all of you Christians out there, can you pleas explain your beliefs and how it is different from the Baptist beliefs, and can all you non-Christians, please give me a brief explanation of your religion? I know it's a lot to ask, and i actually feel kinda dumb for not knowing anything about this being 18 years old, but i really want to know. Thanks!
