I have considered myself an agnostic atheist for my entire adult life. I believe it is impossible to prove the existence of any deity, but if pressed for a 'yes' or 'no' answer to the question, "Is there a higher being", I would have to answer, with confidence, "no".

That said, I also consider myself as someone who WANTS to believe that there is something more, something greater, and something past this life to look forward to. Those thoughts have not caused me to believe that there is something greater, but as I said, I would truly like to.

Are there other people whose religious beliefs are similar to mine, yet feel the same way?

I think it's easy to 'want to believe', for the reasons you listed, and why so many people do believe.
I think it's much harder to not believe and take the responsibilities of your life in your own hands.

Deke,

I believe in a higher consciousness who acts as a muse and an initiator. It's not a complex belief, and sometimes, I wish that this god were something more like the great cosmic best friend in the sky that other people believe in. However, I look at the world around me and the amorality of evolution, the vast emptiness of space, the existence of random birth defects, and so on convince me that the all-loving Big Papa of modern Judeo-Christian thought doesn't exist. I'd like to buy into the idea that humanity (and I) is special because the all-powerful God fashioned us with love and care. My rationality prevents this.

Sentimentality can take you a long way toward belief, but ultimately it fades away. You have to be honest with yourself.

Take care,

Laz

Judaism has a much wider stretch of recognition on concept in God because we do not require concept, in problem-free words action. Christianity calls for concept in God -- it truly is kinda the point. So agnostic/atheist Christian does no longer make any sense, even with the undeniable fact that it truly is works in Judaism. also those agnostic/atheist's in Judaim many times recommend they have doubts & are uncertain. once you settle on there isn't any God, Judaism doesn't somewhat make that a lot sense as is, yet those who attempt this often purely go away & do not call themselves Jews. EDIT: Christianity's theory of God does right now contradict with Judaisms. it truly is why those 2 do not artwork at the same time. I forgot to operate that. A human component to God and human sacrifice are both essense beliefs in Judaism that you'll't have them - going lower back to the Pharoah tale & the Issiac tale (lengthy predating Christanity.) Judaism isn't an ethnicity. it truly is a history that seems ethnic, yet all of that COMES instantly out of the religion it truly is self. it truly is a faith the position you are able to come & go away, yet as area of the relations/community. you are able to't "go away" an ethnicity, & preserving one is ethnically Jewish misses an comprehend-how of Judaism that it truly is compared to being Italian. i comprehend it truly is demanding to comprehend once you come back from a individual religon alongside with Chrisitanity. a good type of persons do not comprehend this about the ethnicity coming from the religion, even some non-practising Jews, that is why it receives unclearly reported a lot. ===================== Why contained in the international does she favor to locate as a Jew. She left the religion. She isn't a Jew in accordance to Judaism. She had an Orthodox history, she might want to comprehend this and function common it at the same time as she switched over. i somewhat ought to ask your self what the underlying themes are that she isn't embracing her history of decision completely?

How can you guys not believe in a "higher being" that created all the universe and mankind?
Where did we all come from? how does the sun rise and set? How does it all work? Surely you cant think its all explained by "Science" and therefore there is no creator?
You do not always have to see something to believe it. To me, logic says we have been created by a mighty power....namely God/Allah or whatever you chose to call it......we sure werent put here by a "super scientific blast" or anything weird like that !!!

I WANT to believe that I'll find 100 solid gold bricks underneath my bed in the morning but that doesn't mean it's realistic.
