Haha...I'm sure everyone else has given the answer that Christmas is originally a religious thing...so I'm not gonna bother writing extensively about why it is.

Personnaly I believe no religion is spoiling Christmas more nowadays...how many people even think of Jesus, apart from in Nativity plays...and it won't b long before we even arent allowed to do religious plays at Christmas

Christmas is actually a celebration of Christ so it is religious i think what spoils it is the greed and the constant need for expensive gifts and spending money that spoils christmas. It should be a time for peace and love.

I think this is an ignorant question though. Christmas traditionally is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, across many Christian faiths. Over the years, we have fused secular traditions and characters such as Santa Claus into this holy celebration. Add retailing and decadent commercialisation in recent times, and you have the new age secular tradition which many people forget is a religious holiday. Religion has not spoilt Christmas. We have spoilt it by ignoring, not so much religion, but the inherent spirituality which used to accompany the season. This does not mean that exchanging gifts etc is not a good thing, but we need to recognise that the day is based on Christian origins.

It's the way of religion. The 25th of December is the birthday of Tammuz, stepson of Nimrod. Religions traditionally have been unwilling to part with their Paganism. Christmas is a prime example.

You can search from Genesis to revelation and you will find only Pagans celebrating the day of their birth.

Without Christ's coming we wouldn't have a Christmas!!!

It is people that want to hold onto Christmas, but who disregard the whole reason of why it ever started up in the first place, this is what spoils it!

Whithout Christ its all meaningless! or it wouldn't be CHRIST mas, would it?

Why do advertisers have to spoil Christmas?

It only spoils it for those who let it. Some people don't celebrate Xmas because it was the birth of Christ, some celebrate it because it'a a time of year when you get together w/ family and whatnot..
