While most Americans believe that getting rid of religion is an impossible goal, much of the developed world has already accomplished it. Any account of a “god gene” that causes the majority of Americans to helplessly organize their lives around ancient works of religious fiction must explain why so many inhabitants of other First World societies apparently lack such a gene. The level of atheism throughout the rest of the developed world refutes any argument that religion is somehow a moral necessity. Countries like Norway, Iceland, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom are among the least religious societies on Earth. According to the United Nations’ Human Development Report (2005) they are also the healthiest, as indicated by measures of life expectancy, adult literacy, per capita income, educational attainment, gender equality, homicide rate and infant mortality. Conversely, the 50 nations now ranked lowest in terms

God is our creator according to many, so why can't we give him the same rationale as we have? To say he is omnipotenet and benevolent is to say he knows and controls all, so is he not the greatest human, with the power to decide and forecast at will? Why then, is everything and the "God" beliefs as they are? Should we not put our faith in God and try to do what we can for ouseleves and for others in the names of humans and drop the "will of god" because it only fashions to believers?

See, thats why we are normal and you christians are crazy. We try to a scientic explaination with study and reseach, when all you do is pick up a 2000 year old book. You never question it and call it fact. We read, study, analyse and still call it.... theory. We admit to not knowing where we come from but you crazy christians seem to think that the floating piece of meat in YOUR head somehow holds all the answers in life. It takes a fraction of your brain power to read something and never question it and take it as fact. If god gave to a brain with the ability to question and analyse your owning being why would you shut it down and completely trust a book that was written when society was 100% different from where you live? p.s. people dont read bible quotes, dont waste your time writing them.

If there's no god, no afterlife, just death and decomposition, what brings an atheist hope?

We can now describe very accurately the motion of the stars and galaxy, the formation of stars, the chemistry of life e.t.c. There are things we still do not know of course, such as the origin of the universe e.t.c. but it seems if there is a god it must play a very small part in the day to day running of the universe.
Is it that this once omnipotent being has been relegated to only having influence over the unknown?
It has occured to me that if the known universe cotinues perfectly well ( and in a predictable way I should add) without a god, then this god is no longer neccessary.

then that could mean that heaven could be nothing. like when you die that's it. your'e done. you don't have to go to hell.

and on that note maybe this is hell. and after we die, we come back reincarnated, back to earth. because all life suffers, right? maybe that's the answer! maybe i just figured out the whole secret!
