I used to think it was the phase "women shall not wear men's clothing" in the Bible, but that makes no sense. Pants weren't invented until 1,500 years after the Bible was written.

I was raised going to a Baptist church. And for the one who asked me to get my facts straight, I was sitting in the church when the preacher said it, so my facts are pretty straight.

yeah that is kind of why... Many have a hard time understanding that you have to understand the cultural context of these OT Laws before you apply them today. The principle is to dress and behave appropriate to your gender within your cultural context. women wearing pants is not culturally inappropriate. Not very many people really believe this anymore- very very few and far between.

True they weren't . but when they were it was for men to wear. Mostly for horseback ridding and fighting.Women were still expected to wear Skirts or dresses to be a model of femininity.
That didn't change until sometime during the building of the American west. Except for the odd band of women now and again through out the history of fashion.
So it was a Patriarchal society religious thing. that tried to keep women in dresses as the only proper attire for them. When they were alowed to ride horses at all it was eirher side saddale or wear a split skirt so that the could sit upon the horses back with a better grip and balance.

Things like clothing and jewlery are dependent on the society the people are living in at the current time.
Like 50's &60's it still was improper and not accepted for men to wear earings, but as time progressed into the late 80's and on to the 90' it became more acceptable for men to wear an (one) earing. But two earings, evan today people will raise an eyebrow if they see a man wearing two earings.
So, again it's dependent on the society being lived in at the time; and people know what is and isnt acceptable to society; and we will be judged on our concients. Did we know and did something anyway?Or did we not know and unconciously did something?
Most or majority of the time, we know.

Well, on one hand I see one side of it; they believe that to go to church to 'worship god', dress is part of showing respect. I can see that.
However, I also see the other side. My dad is a preacher, and he's gone to church when he didn't have time to change in his overalls. So I guess it depends if a person has the time and what they have to work with. Some pants suits for women are probably pretty dressy, so I don't see what's wrong with them. Sorry I don't have an easy answer to that one.

Well, regardless of the fact that pants weren't invented until the Rennassaince, dresses never went out of style. And super conservative/relatively radical Christians see women wearing pants as a way of cross dressing, and to them it is the same as a man putting on a skirt.

There are many traditions of mankind in all faiths.
The division of the roles and the dress of men and women change with society. A man in a 3 piece suit would have been laughted at during Jesus time.

That's absurd, traditional churches don't frown on women wearing pants. Maybe some fringe churches do who interpret Scripture to their liking, but no tradional. Get your facts straight before you ask a question.

The mentality is that if you can see the split of a womans legs, (such as when she is wearing pants), a man will be driven to lust and unclean thoughts.
This is not MY opinion, just the way of some churches. Who thought this up?
A man of the cloth who had thoughts of lust in his dirty little mind, and felt uncomfortable.

I don't think they frown on it now. We have most of the women wearing them at our church. Now I know in church on Sunday mornings we, for the most part, wear dresses, then on Sunday nite and Wednesdays we wear pants. I think on Sunday mornings it is a respect for God thing. Hope this helps..
