I agree some what with your point. I'm not going to wear a silver neoprene jumpsuit or substitute pills for food. Hover cars would be cool.
In the dark ages, religions, especially Catholicism, tended to burn some great minds at the stake.

I suppose SF writers were just using their imagination a little too much. What does this have to do with religion? And then, life has changed a lot in the last 50 years anyway, so what's your problem?

No, spending a century perfecting the way we watch sci-fi movies is to blame for us not living them--If we had not wasted all that scientific genius on giant lcd flatscreen tvs and dvd players and other worthless enetertainment crap, we might have developed hovercars by now--blame the nation's priorities

Religion slows us down a bit. Maybe we need it.
Science is about to start creating life.
Intellgent Design is going to be a reality.
We are going to live in the Huxley Brave New World.
How do you want to deal with it?
You're genetically altered and spliced, clone servant you buy from the We Make Good company, what if they give your problems. Become self aware. Want to start a union. Want to be free. Want to marry your daughter.
How you gonna act or react!
More importantly what is going to happen when Liberal Democrats take you to task for being one up because you found him naked in bed with your daughter.

i used to question everything, like you, but then i went through a really rough time, and for some reason, i found GOD, and when that happened, everything seemed to fall into place, theres a couple of moments when i have began to doubt GOD again, but then someone answered a question on yahoo, and the faith came back, along with the feeling of belonging.
what i'm more or less saying is, don't analyse everything, things you can't understnad, just accept for what they are.

I left it next to the life like cybergenetic version of that playboy bunny i created. ****!

Religion is about to lead our life according to the rules & guidelines that have been given by God to us through His messengers and holy books. It give us boundaries to maintain us as a good follower but nevertheless as the time goes by, the stake are running higher.
For us, Muslims, in our religion, we could do everything but it must be parallel to al Quran & as Sunnah. That's why we have the best doctor ever - Ibn Sina, al Kindi and etc... Ibn Rushd for philosophy... Ibn Firnas for musics.... Kharizmi for Maths and lots more... As long as you're walking on the right lane, you're spread your wings, and fly as high as you wish to be....
Matter or fact, we need limitations to be the good followers. So several aspects of our life are strictly being guide. For those who didn't think the life after Death, the Heaven and Hell, he or she might do everything freely without considering about Sin... But, for those who realized the main objective why God sending him or her to this world, he or she will do best not only for his or her living in this world but also the preparation for death and also for the Judgement Day...

It's that we're not as smart as the sci-fi writers think we are.I'm 54 ,when I was a kid we were going to have flying cars by 1970.....Still waiting. It has nothing to do with religion at all.
It is kind of funny though ,that the people who go nuts over animal experiments ,think nothing of killing baby humans.
