I am a Christian and I am tired of secular things, like news casts and religion section of the paper saying "the Catholic church says" and making it like all Christianity is based on that. I have nothing against Catholics, I just don't think all of Christianity should be based on one religious section.

If a baby is born to a Catholic mother, does that automatically make the baby Catholic as well?, even though the father is Muslim. I know that if a Muslim man marries a non-muslim woman, the children will be raised Muslim.
But I always wondered since the mother is Catholic, if the baby will be catholic as well.

Or Does it mean that no matter what the religion, God loved the world so much that Jesus death covers all people who are sincerely trying to be good people?

To the person who wanted to know about hoping someone dies. Yes it's o.k My Father was 90 with Parkinsons and I hoped and prayed that the Lord would take him. He mercifully did. Life with the Lord is beautiful and dieing is a neccessity. It is the death of sin. Make sure your loved one has seen a priest or pastor and let them go and pray for them.

As an atheist, from generations of atheist philosophers, I think ethics (and much of what many call morals) are self-evident and ultimately universally self-enforcing when one thinks about it. From family to species and Earth and its systems, we are interdependant. Does religious doctrine convince us, really - or by allowing us to avoid thinking, and convincing ourselves, merely restrict our insight, act on scripts (often misunderstood) as we find convenient, and look always for external direction, making us potential puppets?

Do you know the history of the Maccabees, the persecution of the Jews under Antiochus IV Ephiphanes, and the revolt?

When you know that history, it seems quite obvious that that is what Daniel is about.

Yet many claim it is about the future.

How can you say this, unless you simply don't know the history?

Let's put aside our differences and focus on a world free of hunger war and disease. I was raised christain but I know we must work together for our children. We are being fed lies about each other.
Lies come from one place. I hold my hand out in faith.
Lets turn this thing around.
Any good ideas?

So, I was reading that stupid, little book that all the christians say is great and etc...... When I came across this passage:

Luke
11:23 "He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth"

Why is this Jesus character so mean? I'm either him or against him? That's not very loving nor tolerant. Why should I want to worship a jerk like that? Does anyone else realize that Darth Vader said the same thing in Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith? Why is this Jesus character so much like Darth Vader? Mean. Cruel. You're either with him or against him. Kills countless people. Says that certain people don't deserve rights.

Why would anyone want to worship a jerk like that?

Practically every one believed in satan, angels, spirits, jinn and so on and so on in Jesus time. So do you think "you are blind sheep" was a compliment?

To me there is no difference between one person and another; I behold all as soul-reflections of the one God. I can't think of anyone as a stranger, for I know that we are all part of the One Spirit. When you experience the true meaning of religion, which is to know God, you will realize that He is your Self, and that He exists equally and impartially in all beings. Then you will be able to love others as your own Self.

A family I've known my whole life has become ripped apart. The father left the family because he was actually homosexual. He lived in another state for a while, but died of AIDS last year. The two sons have struggled with severe depression for ten or so years. One, call him M, tried to commit suicide when he was sixteen. The other brother, A, just committed suicide two weeks ago. He had been talking about it for months and started scratching his face out of family photos. I talked with M for a long time tonight and he is also thinking about suicide. Would you pray for M and his family?

I was born Catholic. I believe in God I just don't agree with certain values of religions. Therefore I guess you could say I am no longer catholic. My bestfriend amanda told me about LaVey Satanism. I think it is an intresting look on life and the human behavior. I agree with a lot of what it says. What do you think about it?

"Then, again, sever thy children and thy children's children from Cain's children; do not let them ever mix with those, nor come near them either in their words or in their deeds."

Then sin increased among them greatly; until a man married his own sister, or daughter, or mother, and others; or the daughter of his father's sister, so that there was no more distinction of relationship, and they no longer knew what is iniquity; but did wickedly, and the earth was defiled with sin; and they angered God the Judge, who had created them.

Thus did this Genun multiply sin exceedingly; he also acted with pride, and taught the children of Cain to commit all manner of the grossest wickedness, which they knew not; and put them up to manifold doings which they knew not before.

Then when they were drunk, hatred and murder increased among them; one man used violence against another to teach him evil taking his children and defiling them before him.

I mean come on, from Christianity to Catholicism, to Scientology, everywhere, people will try and force their views on me, but can never back up anything with valuable information, not even anything substantial. I am not asking for substantiated evidence or rebuttal, but I really want to know, how long will it take to get a point that everyone will believe something different?

I was talking with my kid earlier about different religions and their concept of "god", and became curious. I would like to know what constitutes "a god" or "the God" in your religion. What differentiates "God" (or goddess, if you have those) from, say, and angel or a djinn or a fairy or a superhero?

I would especially like to hear from polytheists on this question. How do you define "this character is a god", from "this character is not a god"?

Atheists, besides "fairy tale character", what would y ou expect to find in somebody claiming to be God? I want you to work for your 2 points this time!
