So, I was reading that stupid, little book that all the christians say is great and etc...... When I came across this passage:

Luke
11:23 "He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth"

Why is this Jesus character so mean? I'm either him or against him? That's not very loving nor tolerant. Why should I want to worship a jerk like that? Does anyone else realize that Darth Vader said the same thing in Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith? Why is this Jesus character so much like Darth Vader? Mean. Cruel. You're either with him or against him. Kills countless people. Says that certain people don't deserve rights.

Why would anyone want to worship a jerk like that?

Casper,

It's called evolution.

bloop87,

Well, it's obvious I'm doomed. I enjoy being a heathen Atheist far too much to quit my "horrible" ways. I see no evidence whatsoever to consider there to be any god or afterlife, so I really don't care what the bible (or any other religious book) says.

I think George Bush has said that many times too.

I was debating whether to answer your question(s)...
but obviously the will to answer was just irresistible...

you asked:
So, I was reading that stupid, little book that all the christians say is great and etc......

>>the Bible is not a stupid little book, but a collection of 66 (or so) books

When I came across this passage:
Luke 11:23 "He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth"

>>yes, that passage literally means what it says... whoever is not for Jesus...is against him -- for there is no middle ground when it comes to things concerning God.

Why would anyone want to worship a jerk like that?

>>being mean is dependent upon each person and he did not really advocate tolerance.
calling someone a jerk is subjective as well... (as they say, one man's trash is another mans treasure)

but we mere men should be very careful...
(as long as we are talking about the bible and thus actually considering that what it says about Jesus might be true, & we know that we are indeed just mortal men)

it is alright be an agnostic (or to be a rationalist), it is alright to be an atheist (if you really believe that) but to slander someone (who for even the slightest of chances can be the real thing, the big G - God) is beyond me.

one thing though, because you are obviously not for him, then going by the tone of your question, you are definitely against him, ... & that i can understand.

Unfortunately you know the answer to the question already otherwise why would you have picked up the bible and read what it is saying to you. If you are trying to justify how your life is going down hill why then bother us with your stupid question. Maybe you are afraid that it could be the answer that you are looking for. Just a word of advice to you brother or sister life is too precious to go to waste by being so angry with the world. You know Jesus is the only way to the truth and the light so why not try and cheer up and read the Word you might actually learn something positive and why you have been put on this earth and for what reason are you here.

The bible seems to speak in riddles because in those times people spoke that way. And I'm sure Jesus did not say that. You have to remember that when you read an English bible its a translation of a translation. From Aramaic, to Latin to English etc... So I'm sure it loses some meaning along the way. But you are right you don't have to follow Jesus or even believe in him as long as you understand his message which is peace, love, understanding, compassion and forgiveness. Jesus was a great man, and you shouldn't take that away from him just because some people change his words for their convenience.

What he means is the world is in the power of Satans hand. So youre either completely with Jesus and God or against them. There is the scripture in the Bible that says you cant be drinking of the cup of Jehovah and the cup of Satan meaning you cant worship both. And in this world and the day were living in there are so many things people believe and do that are against what Jehovah wants. So really you are either with him (completely) or not at all. You have to love Jehovah with youre whole mind body soul and strength. Not just some here and there...if you have more questions email me hispeach128@yahoo.com :)

Well I'm not Christian, but you should not bash other people's religion like that, its rude and disrespectful. Back to your question, I suppose that getting into heaven requires you to sort of complete a checklist of all the things you should obey/follow in life. And if fail to complete these "objectives" then you would not be able to enter into heaven. Basically, if you want to go to heaven, then you have to follow Jesus and do what he says, otherwise you will go to hell. Yes it is an ultimatum, but consider the fact that you are either going to live happily after or burn in hell for eternity, I think you would want to make a choice. In some ways, I guess that Jesus is trying to show you love by making a decision right now and then, after all, would you be tolerant of murderers and rapists wreaking havoc on society?

You are either pregnant or you are not. Some things are as simple as black or white, yes or no. Are you with Jesus? If the answer is not yes, it is no- isn't it?

Obviously, you are not 'with' him. Big surprise.

Hm. Comparing him to Darth Vader. Wow. A LOT of people have plagurized the 'stand with us or you stand against us' mentality. Bush said "You're either with us or against us in the fight against terror." in Nov. 2001. Young Menace had a CD with a similar name.

The 'kills countless people' and denys rights bits- you'll have to back that up. Sure, people have done it in his name, but there is not much of a record of him doing that himself.

But... I ain't gonna convince you, and you ain't gonna convince me, so why bother?

Yeah, it would make since that He is a jerk if it wasn't for the fact that He is the son of the Creator and King of heaven, inviting you into His kingdom. He dies for you and says, show a little respect and spread love and not hate. How you got that Jesus ever killed anyone is a mystery to me. Don't judge a book by it's cover and don't judge a God by His followers. Judge a God by His example and teachings.

Well, you obviously are against him. So, why ask this question? Jesus healed many, fed the starving, healed the sick and dieing, loved the unloveable, etc. How is that a mean man? And now you compare him with a fictional caracter from a sci-fi movie?? I think you are being mean.
PS Don't pick out one verse but not give the ones before or after to explain it.

All it means is that you can't be on the fence. You can't go party with your friends Saturday, show up to church Sunday like a "good little Christian" and then repeat the same behavior the next weekend! Either you are a believer and follower of Jesus or you're not...simple as that!!

Well with an question like that i can tell you are not with Jesus! I will pray for you. Jesus is very loving and gracious and we should be grateful that he lets us worship him so we can one day be in heaven with him. The passage means that you cannot be serving him and the world, it is not possible. I will be in heaven when my Lord and Savior comes back and i hope you will be too. I would not want my worst enemy to go to Hell ( The Lake of Fire and Brimstone )
