It's called a preccatory prayer. There are many demonstrations of this in the old testament (if your a Bible reader). Generaly these people suffered the consiquences of their own actions. God called many people groups in old testament literature to root out the evil around them. Many prophets offered these prayers upto God. Particular is the sections in psalms where the "how long o'Lord must I suffer at the hands of my enimies" and so on. There are so many strange and curious outcomes it is difficult to assertain wether it is ethically correct or moral defunct to issue this kind of prayer. Today however, i would tell you to be careful what you wish, hope or pray for as it just might come true. And you'll be stuck with that the rest of your life. How do you know, maybe this person wishes the same for you.

It depends on who it is, and why you have that wish. For example, if it is a terrorist who is killing people all the time, or an evil dictator who is oppressing his people, then I can see you hoping for that. But really, our hope ought to be that the person changes, heart and soul, and becomes good.

At least you are honest about this though. Come to terms with the person, and understand what it is about them that you don't want them around for that long. Be honest with yourself. Is there something you can do to learn to cope with that person better?

It is OK to pray that God have mercy on them if they are extremely sick, in pain, can't eat or drink so that they not suffer. However, that is only if they are not expected to live but a few more days. "Not" if they are fine and someone just wants them to pass away because they are 97.

If they are ill and not expected to live and are suffering, we should pray God's will be done, not ours. He knows when He is ready for someone and not a day sooner. He knew the day we were to be born and the day we will pass away.

If your loved one is very ill, I pray God has mercy and His will be done.

well if the someone is enduring pain, suffering of any type, yes it's OK. Death is natural. I have seen people suffer in bed for years in what seemed to be comatose states, bedsores, feeding tube, bloated out of shape because of too much tube feeding[care giving places get in trouble if patients lose weight],their mouths are stuck together with goo because they cannot swallow, they wear diapers, they cannot communicate at all yet they probably can hear us. I would not want extra years of life like that.

Wow sounds like you need to think out why you want them gone just a wee bit maybe you need to change the way they affect you so you don't have to well if it were me fear them. Also you may think about how to forgive them I bet you have but maybe try a new approach. I guess I'm saying you can't wait for death to make your life better then what would you have gained by all you've gone through?

Well if they are 96 and suffering horribly and won't get well...then sure it's ok if it's in the person's best interest. But beyond that...not so nice.

are you asking this about people you hate and want to die,
or people who are sick and suffering and wanting them to be put out before they suffer more?
if it's the first, well, hate is not good for us to have, if it's the second, I'm not sure, maybe.

Sure. It's not going to make a difference unless you try to physically shorten their lifespan.

Well, Many people feel that way but don't have the guts to admit it. I know it's wrong, but some people can really make you wonder what purpose they serve alive.
