Is it true Peter was the first Pope? I thought he was the one that denied knowing Christ three times. How did he ever become the pope anyway? And why do you pray to Mary? Mary isn't God almighty so why treat her as such? Thanks

Religion

2006-09-27 02:24:56 · 14 answers · asked by anne c 1

The point i am trying make is that religion seems far more concerened with making other people believe what they believe rather than actually helping people that need it. Rather than having organised religion and prey meetings why not use that time to help people in the community. Only without god clouding our minds are we free to live our lives. If people weren't so concerned about converting people or shouting that there religion is right we would all live together much happier. We could use our time for good and importnat things.

Instead of standing outside a jerry springer opera or marching about cartoons why not use that energy and time to actually help people that need it. Rather than spend sundays knocking on peoples doors to try and convert them why not work with needy children.

Not until god has left us will we be truely free.

Does anyone else agree with this???

Why don't we try it now? Confess now and absolution is granted immediately. By what authority do you ask? By the power vested in me as a Yahooer and member of the Human Race, I proclaim my authority. No need to wait in line at the confessional booth. Do it here and now! It's probably just as valid as you believe it to be.

Why do you think that?

I would have to say atheists are because they have no moral compass at all.

Agnostics are just weak willed, they simply can't make up their mind.

Pagans are merely stupid or dilusional because they live in a fantasy world of magic and dragons, things they should have gotten over by the third grade.

If nature is so complex it had to be designed by a god... then isn't god so complex it had to be designed by another god?
If we except that god simply has always simply existed... then maybe nature & the universe (in some form) has always just simply existed too, without the help of a god.

i think it is ignorant not only to claim to know that a god exists but also to claim one doesnt exist. science and religion both claim they have conclusive evidence to support their claims but the truth is we will probably never know. so whats the point in all the bickering? why cant everyone just play nice?

is it studied, have you ever heard a sermon regarding this

As I read it, seems it says those christians who are immature should not be out here interacting with non christians because they create a false witness.

Does not take much reading in this section to know that this scripture is ignored., not taught, and definately not practiced

If they took all of the energy they spent trying to get same-sex marriage outlawed and put it towards something worthwhile, like trying to help the sick and dying overseas? Is your political agenda more important then the lives of starving children?

NOTE: I know that there are some Christians out there who are tolerant when it comes to this issue. I am not generalizing, I am addressing this question to a certan group of christians.

DISCLAIMER: Since there always seems to be one person who thinks you have to be part of a group to stick up for it, I would like to inform that person that I am straight.

Religion is something which weak minded people need to cling onto because they are so scared of living there own life. If something goes wrong then it is ok because God must have wanted it. Religion is a way for people to justify horrible acts from murders in ireland to lynchings in america. Religion is a way for people to feel self rightous and important as they have no importance in their own life as it is empty and hollow.

Tell me why is it that magnificent churches and cathedrals could be built whilst at the time people where dying in squaler. Why must religion have these extravagent places of worship when they are not needed. People should look in side there hearts and use the money spent on these extravagant buildings to help needy people. Rather than priest lecturing me about hell and damnation why aren't they out in the most needy places helping people instead of condeming.

I bet now you are all going to say you are to prey for my soul. Save it you poor deluded people.

Those who are serious and know only to please answer this:

Is there karma or fate or destiny. If yes, then if we are affected by the good or bad of it then everything for us is ruled by it. Then when we can not avoid this natural law why we should pray or worship whatever. What is the benefit of prayer in the face of effects of K or f or d. If no relief is the way left to us ,is only abject keeping quiet and suffer for bad k or f or d.? Then when we can not absolve the effects of bad k or f or d , how can we survive in this earth having born.
Precisely what effects are the prayer in this context of K or F or D?

Jesus taught tolerance. For a religion that promotes "loving thy neighbor" so much, why the frequent complaints about other Christians of different "religions"? And, why the intolerence for Muslims, Jews, and others, when our religions have roots in the same Old Testament, when we worship the same God?

Every time that something happens against the odds you always have people there saying it's god work about how they were saved from death or whatever. What a bunch of crap. Say you have 150 die on a plane crash and 3 survive. It must be a miracle that god had 150 killed and let 3 live. No, it's odds. Everything is odds. The 99 out of 100 times that something happens people ignore it and then when that 1% out-of-the-norm chance happens, people say omg, it's the work of God. No it's chance, you think it's a big dea cuz you tend to forget the times when the norm happens. If he wanted you alive so much he wouldn't have put you in that situation in the first place. Why do christians always have to make up things about everything, that's what a child does. It's time you start living in reality brosephs

What is his deal?

I mean, if you don't want to adhere to doctrine, don't be a priest! It's like saying "I'm not a Christian, but I want to be a minister..." or "I'm not going to medical school, but I'm going to be a doctor."

At what point in your life did you CHOOSE to be heterosexual? Or did those urges feel kind of irresistable when you were around 13?

Of course, if you are Christian and secretly gay, it would be nice to hear what you think too. Everyone's anonymous here.
