Islam (Arabic: الإسلام; al-'islām (help·info)) is a monotheistic religion based upon the Qur'an, which adherents believe was sent by God (Arabic: Allāh) through Muhammad. Followers of Islam, known as Muslims (Arabic: مسلم), believe Muhammad to have been God's final prophet; most of them see the historic record of the actions and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad related in the Sunnah and Hadith as indispensable tools for interpreting the Qur'an.
Like Judaism and Christianity, Islam is classified as an Abrahamic religion.[1] It is estimated that there are 1.4 billion adherents[2], making Islam the second-largest religion in the world. Secular historians place Islam's beginnings during the late 7th century in Arabia. Under the leadership of Muhammad and his successors, Islam rapidly spread by religious conversion and military conquest.[3]
Today, followers of Islam may be found throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia. The majority of Muslims are not Arabs (only 20 percent of Muslims originate from Arab countries). [4] Islam is the second largest religion in the United Kingdom, [5] and if current trends continue it will soon become the second largest in the United States. [6]

Exactly what Big T said.
It is a religion where we believe in the oneness of God. It's a very peaceful religion, and religion is something everyone's spirit needs.

I don't know enough about Islam to answer the first question.
What is religion? It is simply your spiritual beliefs. In a sense, even atheism could be considered a religion.

Islam is based on having a complete knowledge of Allah (God) Almighty (His names and attributes), affirming His Oneness as the Lord of the universe, and affirming His Oneness as the only One to be worshiped. This belief is the foundation on which the Muslim's Faith is built in addition to the five Pillars of Islam.
it depends what religion you are to know that.....and religion is a belief on how life was created.....

This question is too hard to answer without bias. I will say that there is sometimes a difference in what a religion says and how it is practiced.

Muhammed was born almost 600 years after Christ.
Then he tried to re-write history and falsify the teachings of Christ:
Muslims (and Islam) say Jesus was a prophet but they reject all His teachings ...
They reject Christ's divinity;
they reject his claim to be the Son of God;
they reject his death on the cross...
they reject His ressurrection..
They reject Jesus is the Christ/ Messiah...
Need I say more...?
Don't be deceived. The Islamic god is totally different than the God of Jesus Christ .
The Bible calls Muhammed a False prophet....
The Bible says:
"Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-Christ, that denies the Father and the Son. He that denies the Son, the same has not the Father." (I John 2:22)

Religion is Satan's answer to man's god problem.
Jesus Christ is God's answer to man's sin problem.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them. Proverbs 1:7-10 NIV (Listen)

Religion was the manmade way to control us in ancient times.
People were uncivilised then as you know and thats why it gets so messy trying to apply it today.
10 commandments is all thats needed really :)

I don't really know the answer to your first question.
The answer to your 2nd question is that relgion is a manmade
attempt to understand life.
Manmade things are never perfect. Some are better than others but still not perfect.
My advice is to look to the Creator and the Relationship He wants to have with us. We can only find out about that by reading His Word, the Bible.
