Catholics follow tradition more than the Bible which is the word of God, for example they deify Mary and other so called saints which is not Biblical. They teach about pergatory which is also not Biblical, they teach that they can block you from going into heaven which is not Biblical, etc. Christians on the other hand should be followers of the word of God the Bible and it will be there guide.

Wow. So-called Christians are bashing Catholocism. Amazing. As an ex-Catholic I do not agree with some of their 'rules' but I would not go so far as to say they are anti-bible or do not worship Jesus.
People really need to STUDY something before they open their mouths. There is no purgatory in the modern Catholic Church and neither the saints nor Mary is deified.
Catholics are Christians in that they worship Jesus Christ as the son of God. They also revere Mary as the mother of Jesus and, therefore, the mother of God. Why some other Christian sects totally ignore Mary is beyond me. She was chosen by God, right? Catholics follow a more strict, mature, way of worship. They also believe that all Christian faiths are legitimate and do not, as a Church, say that Baptists or Lutherans or any other sect is wrong. Individuals may do this but the Churches view is not so crude.
I attended Catholic Churches for a long time and remember having MANY pastors from various churches come speak. My sister married a Jewish man and held the ceremony in the Catholic Church with a priest and a Rabbi.
Alas, Catholicism was not for me but if you have any further questions, please ask at a Catholic Parish office. They will answer any questions you have.

Catholics would like for you to believe that they are the same. However, I am a christian but that does NOT mean I am a Catholic because I'm not a Catholic. I'm a Protestant Christian. The difference is that I don't pray to Mary. I believe Mary was an ordinary woman chosen by God to bear the Christ child. But that was God's plan for her life and thus she shouldn't be worshiped or prayed to. But that is just how I feel.

They are truly the same thing hun. Back in 1066 there was a huge revolution in history that took place, and we all are a product of it. Many christians today are actually a break off from the Catholic church. The first split came with Henry the VIII, because he wanted to divorce one wife to marry another, so he formed the Anglican Church of England. Set up his own bishops and everything. Then came Martin Luther and his nailed to the door revolutionary statements. Protestants and Catholics have been fighting this battle ever since. That is the reason many came to the United States to practise their religion in freedom and without fear. Unfortunately we still as a nation have not come to grips with "alternative" religions, I should know, I'm pagan, but we are growing as a nation and I still stand proud of that.

Someone once explained it like this:
C:\CHRISTIAN\CATHOLIC.
Catholics are christian first, and the denomination is second. It's just like:
C:\CHRISTIAN\LUTHERAN.
As for what's different, I can sum it up by saying that Catholics have a lot more don'ts than others. No birth control, for instance. No divorce. Catholics or ex-caths tend to refer to any other christian religion as catholic-light!
And please ignore the ignorant answers. Some fundies like to believe that catholics worship idols and saints. That's not true. Mary, jesus and the other saints are prayed to for intercession. I think of it as a way of personalizing prayer. You pray to the patron saint of lost causes when you have a lost cause to pray about. Or you pray to Mary about female or mother issues. You ask them to intercede with god for you. In a sense, it's almost like they're lawyers, and they're going to court for you. They're experts and know how to get the job done right!
They actually know nothing about catholicism.

Catholics pray to Mary, and other dead people, Christians pray to God, through Jesus.
Catholics believe you can buy your loved ones way into Heaven.
There are a lot more differences I do not want to get into right now.

sadly the catholic teaching is to pray thro' Mary and other saints and to pay for loved ones to get out of pergatory. This is not biblical.
The Word of God is quite clear:
"There is one way only to get to heaven and that is through Christ Jesus". and there is no such thing as pergatory mentioned in the bible.
It is to Jesus we owe our very being and his finished work at Calvary we owe for reconciliation to a holy and righteous God. Not to Mary or anyone else.
Saying this I know a few catholic people who are lovely Godly people and not merely people who pay lip service to their religion.

Catholics are obsessed with Mary and empty rituals. Christians worship Jesus and follow His teachings.
